How to vacuum "textured" carpet.

The carpet in my bedrooms has a diamond pattern to it, similar to the carpet in the video link, but mine is not as "bumpy". Notice how the vacuum bounces, I have the same issue. It seems to me the carpet is not cleaned thoroughly when this happens. Does anyone have tips on how to vacuum it better?

I have a similar rug and its of the velour type which is worse for threads that continuously stick.

The best way I find vacuuming is with an upright and brush bar on. I usually set either my Felix at the highest carpet height setting (not at the highest suction setting though as that Kenmore video shows) or use my dirty fan upright vacs which have no height adjustment. As long as it is a brush that rolls on this type of carpet, dust and dirt gets picked up.

I have noticed very little difference whether the upright concerned has beater bars or none.

The trick not to fall for is the look of darker shades and mistaking it for dirt left behind - easy to do if the imprint is slightly raised on the design of the carpet.

Suction only floor heads aren't good in my experience for those types of carpets or rugs - the science of the vacuum between the sole plate and the carpet ensures each fibre gets a decent tug from the brush roll bristles - whilst suction lifts the dirt.

I see, so bouncing is okay as long as the brushroll is touching the surface. I think the bouncing is minimized though if one vacuums slowly. In the video they are moving too fast when it bounces the most.

Time For A Kirby?

You might want to add a Kirby to your collection. I really can't see one of those bouncing even a little.

Well all you're doing there with a Kirby or even heavy old upright is ploughing through the carpet bits that are elevated. Eventually in time those elevations will become flatter with the weight of the vacuum on top.
