Help Support VacuumLand:

Oh, Ian

Still at it but still won't give us your appraisal. Seriously, though, I apologize for all those things I said (yeah, right). Really, Ian, I didn't know you didn't have a secretary. You could have said something.

Ian, I missed something..

Everyone, back up to post 16722. Ian, in fact, was the first to give us a no obfuscation good faith opinion of the value, $60. I missed it and went on chiding him. My bad. Ian, you and Pete have balls. There we go. The estimates of the fairly complete Compact C-4 are Pete's $30 to $50 and Ian's $60. Fair enough.
I was so confused because I just know Ian wasn't a sandbagger - I need to read more carefully.
See, I told you. Everything has a value. Phew, why was that so hard?
(I'll get to Jeff in a minute).

Okay, Jeff

All right Jeff. That did it. I'm calling you out. Here in front of two guys with balls and a bunch of sandbaggers. You are hereby challenged to a duel. Arm wrestling* in my conference room or reception area on Saturday, September 14, at 4:15 p.m. I'll provide the gloves.

*Disclosure: I haven't arm wrestled since I got into it with a fellow law review editor in 1976 - but I can look it up on the internet. Oh yes, it is only fair to remind you again that I am a tastefully decorated Vietnam combat veteran with about 1,000 combat flying hours.

More about the duel

...and if you lose, you have to give us your good faith estimate of the value of that Compact. Can you handle that?

Workin' on the rules

If the board of directors think it would make more sense to do this at the banquet, that's fine, too.
I will ask my intern, tomorrow, what LMAO means, I don't know all of the brutish jargon.

Gotta be sure I credit Ian

Just let me clear/clarify here with Ian so when he gets up he sees that, in fact, he is the leader. Follow Posts numbered 16717, 16721 and 16722. Ian saw that line in the sand and knew what his duty was. It seemed like the whole club was holding him back but he broke free. Then Pete, post #16726, wasn't going to let a Brit show him up. He was aboard. Brave guys, brave hearts. If I were in a survival situation, Ian and Pete would be my first two choices (after Victoria Beckham) to face our challenges.
So, let me ask you this. How come the Amercans wussed out. You'd think they were in congress.
Here we are, Mark, Ian, Pete, Victoria. What a team. Made my day.

Another Disclosure Item

To give you a feel of what you are up against, my good man, I should also share this:

When I prepare wills for clients, they get an unconditional guarantee. Twice in my career I heard from lawyers making noise about contesting a will I prepared. I said, "Let me explain something. My wills are unconditionally guaranteed. If you want information, medical information, whatever, no problem, just give me a call. We'll do lunch, etc. But know this: There will be no compromise. There will be no settlement. It will be a fight to the death. Every breath, every drop of my blood, is behind this will." Both times, after a few pleasantries, they decided not to go forward with a contest.
Something to think about when you can't sleep.

WOW, RocketWarrior, you are a passionate man

Unbelievable!!!
I've been floating on a lake for 3 days on vacation and came back to this thread. Yes, this is what the forum is all about. What banter, the best. After all the exchanges, I think it comes down to what Fred S. stated. It depends what someone is willing to pay. And in this business, the more original the better, but no guarantees. Quality is a factor and Compacts are quality. I wore out a C6 my family bought in the early 60's. Great machines. Quality is not a question. But quality carriers value and ultimate a higher dollar. They (Compacts) are what they are and you either like them or not. Personally, I always wanted it to be an Electrolux. GO figure. Emotion plays a part in every purchase and we have little control over that. The value is strictly in the eye of the buyer. If the seller feels it's worth more, than hold out, otherwise cut loose on it. It's not that complicated.

Rocketwarrior, love your banter. What fun. It sure makes life interesting.

Kyle, this whole game comes down to trial and error. Give it a shot. Talk with people and gather more opinions then make your decision. There will be more machines to trade. That's the fun of this hobby. Live and learn. You're young and have lots of room to bypass many of us. Enjoy!!!!

Pat

Er, uh, Pat...

Nice to hear from you, but I see you slipped away forgetting to leave us your numbers. Here, just use this form:

"I ___[Pat]_____________ think the fair market value of Kyle's Compact, based on his description and the pic, is worth between __________ and _____________. Disclaimer: This "educated guess" is based on my limited experience with a very small and specialized market and should be used for discussion purposes only. You are cautioned that prices may vary incredibly."

Thank you - have a nice day.

Good morning Ian - apology repeat

Ian, look at post 16761 - I failed to credit you. The following posts contain language chiding you that was not deserved. I take it back and ask your fogiveness: 16729, 16734, and 16757. You were, in fact, the first non-obfuscator and it appears that it was your display of good British spirit that made Pete realize that he, too, needed to show us his good stuff.
You the man, Ian.

uncle uncle uncle uncle uncle

ok here you go:

"I ___(Jeff)_____________ think the fair market value of Kyle's Compact, based on his description and the pic, is worth between __$20________ and ___$50__________. Disclaimer: This "educated guess" is based on my limited experience with a very small and specialized market and should be used for discussion purposes only. You are cautioned that prices may vary incredibly."

Rocket, after we arm wrestle I'm still gonna B**CH slap you.

LMAO means Laughing my A** off

America joins the fight!!

What a treat to come back from breakfast (where I was trying to brief my secretary on all this stuff) and find your post. You made my day (like Ian and Pete did yesterday.)
It is starting to look like a dream team. Ian, Pete, Victoria and Mark.

Now, team, I have a question. Do you have a Leatherman tool on your belt? When you have courage, and talent, like y'all have, a Leatherman, at the ready, makes you indispensible. I have to leave mine in the truck to get through the courthouse metal detector and, of course, for air travel but otherwise I am never without it. I once fixed a corporate CEO's eyeglasses at the conference room table during a deposition.

Leatherman...

My BF seems to think I'd look good in leather, I don't know about that...

Thats all I know about leatherman... {G}

Back to the Duel

Mornin', Rick. Nice to hear from you.

I was a little relieved that you said "light hearted" instead of "Lite hearted." Because Jeff and I want you to know there is nothing "lite" about this duel coming up. We are serious. Deadly serious. He is probably going to have trouble sleeping.

...er, uh, btw, where it your bid? Here is the form:

"I ___(Rick)_____________ think the fair market value of Kyle's Compact, based on his description and the pic, is worth between __________ and _____________. Disclaimer: This "educated guess" is based on my limited experience with a very small and specialized market and should be used for discussion purposes only. You are cautioned that prices may vary incredibly."

Did you think I was going to let is slide. Nothing lite going on here (smile).

Important Correction.

I need to be more careful, Rick, I said "bid" - I meant "guess" - That is, I think, part of the problem we were having here. I don't want you to bid on this thread, just give you good faith "notion" of the possible value.

Gotta go.

I will be out of touch for a few days and the only access I will have is brother-in-law's dial up and I would rather take gas than do that. So, DreamTeam, just know that some of the guys might want to say some stuff with me gone. Watch yourselves.

Click the link if you want to know where I am. Jeff, you better not click the link. There's a lot of machismo in that video that may only make it even harder for you to sleep.

Y'all take care and try to have some fun.

Hey Mister Sailor Man

Love the video. I'm with you. Nothing like the lake and wind.
Love your blood-based conviction - The best!!!
Now, in order to have the balls I so desperately want, I'm going to agree with Petek's estimate of $30 to $50. It just feels right. And having balls is sooooo important. I don't want to be left out.
The above is my final answer.
Anyone else willing to commit?????????????

Hey Rocket

Check out thread 12864 on AutomaticWasher.org. Same discussion. Same conclusion. A washer is worth anywhere from $1.00 to $1,000.00 depending on how bad someone wants it. Finding that someone who will pay $1,000 is the trick. Have fun sailing.

RFLMAO.....

Someone sure enjoys to debate... And, you can sure tell who is the attorney and who is the finance person. LOL...

We learned this same basic logic in Econ 101; it's called the law of supply and demand. You can apply all sorts of formulas to calculate the value of an item. However, until you find a buyer willing to pay the asking price it's all just theoretical.

the way people think now days

No used things worth anny thing ,I couldnt sell a kirby omega in the paper for $25 kinda sad people dont trust used anny thing.I used to sell Bicycles ,washers, dryers, electronics.ect

I'm baaaaack!!!! ,,now, the recap

RECAP

Recall, I was asking for an educated guess as to the fair market value of the Compact C-4 that Kyle was using to try to make a deal. And, in deference to the tremendous slop room caused by the limited/squirrely market, I tried to make easier by providing this ‘suggested’ format:

"I ____________ think the fair market value of Kyle's Compact, based on his description and the pic, is worth between __________ and ___________.
Disclaimer: This "educated guess" is based on my limited experience with a very small and specialized market and should be used for discussion purposes only. You are cautioned that prices may vary incredibly."

The good faith estimates of value were as follows:
Ian - $60
Pete - $30 to $50
Jeff $20 to $50
Charles Richard - $30 to $50

There you have it. The fair market value of that machine is, if you take out the high and the low, between $30 and $50 --- we could probably say $40 – give or take. Good job guys.

…and yes, of course, Tania, or someone on ebay, might pay more – even a lot more. Or, you could hold out for a number and let it reduce to zero if you factor the time value of money.

I think Dr. Lester’s contribution is very important and, yes, he has balls. (I just knew it!) Some of you tried to use his Aunt Tillie article as a rationalization for continued sandbagging but you kind of missed the context, or the semantics, or something. And even in that article, Charles talks about the potential of the right machine in the right condition.

But for this thread, CRL understood that obfuscation misses the point and rendered his opinion, in agreement with Pete’s. And while I am not as involved in these matters as most of you, I would suggest that CRL is certainly “qualified” to render an opinion.

So, if I were in a survival situation and could pick my team, I would go with Ian, Pete, Jeff, Charles Richard and, of course, Victoria Beckham. What a team. And Jeff would be on the team even though we are opponents in a serious competition on September 15 (corrected date).

Thanks, guys!

P.S. Recall that at post #16575 Kyle said his collector/estimator told him $180. Now, I cannot include this value because it is hearsay (smile) and the source is not revealed. Obviously we cannot accept testimony that cannot be confronted [except in limited war time situations that do not apply here]. Okay, I know there is a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes – anyone know where that number came from?

P.P.S. I will clarify some things in another thread later.

just one more thing...

Since I did offer an opinion, such as it is, I'm wondering if you'd be so kind as to award me a set of BALLS?

Sept 15 it is sir!

Jeff's Balls

My dear Sir,
I am not awarding them, I am just locating them. You have shown them to us all. Impressive, my good man.

What kinda survival situation would this be Mark? *finishes picking a nail with his rambo knife ;p* ya usual bag the reds, get the asian girl and go home with ya arse intact? :P I do hope so, this war on terror crap is getting terribly passe..
