How do I clean a rusty motor?

When I dissected my Bissell PowerForce recently, I found the motor had gotten rusty. Now, I have taken very good care of this machine in the eight years that I have had it, but I did keep it in the garage for a couple of years. Luckily, the gasket prevented the rust from spreading to the rest of the motor, but I still would like to clean it. Any ideas?

Rust

I would use Naval Jelly. Stops the rust. and can help removal.

Wire brush works wonders

EvapoRust or electrolysis will remove the rust without damaging the underlying metal.
