@hi-low switch: The relationship between motor power dissipation and airwatt output isn't linear - the weaker the motor, the more suction power you'll get per electrical watt expended. (That's why, for example, a Filter Queen that draws about 1kw has performance similar to some of these 2kw screamers. They put out a bit more oomph, but not nearly double as much.)

That's the direction I'm moving in, exception being my Hoovers but I only got them because they are probably the most stylish vacuums I've ever seen and I think their worth hanging onto for the future.

Isn't the Freemotion prone to damage easily? I did see you can purchase a hose for it off HooverSpares.co.uk for about £17. Would you recommend it to me as they are £79.99 on Hoover.co.uk

For a collection yes I'd personally recommend it, if you're going to actually use it then no deffo not! The finish will scratch and the hose will split and that hose you saw on Hoovers spares site is the basic hose and if you get the grey Freemotion you would need the remote control hose and I don't know how much that would cost I would guess a lot more? Mines boxed away nice and safe only used it once to test it and once to make a YouTube vid.

Interesting video, though its a mix of the introductory one on the first link. As a musician though I do have to say, the music they've used on Hotpoint's video smacks of Hoover's video from the 1980s when the Turbopower uprights were released. Naughty Hotpoint!

I'm getting disappointed now as the stock photos on here show a Wessel Werk derived floor head compared to the Electrolux like cheap grey floor head featured in the video. However right at the end of the video there appears to be a bagless stick vac - I really hope that isn't Hotpoint's "new upright vacuum cleaner," but it really wouldn't surprise me if it was!

If Hotpoint have a stick upright vac, I really hope it is mains powered AND it has a long amount of cord - there isn't anything like that on the UK market that has 10 metres of cord. Its a reason to why I keep my Miele stick vacuum - but its a heavy vintage thing.

TBH It porbably is, wouldn'y be surprised & they'll probably charge a fortune for it!

The BOL Cylinder Vac is quite cheap at £74.99 though & isn't Made In China - so theres a plus!

Well I couldn't wait any longer for Hotpoint to get their finger out since their lowest 1600 watts bagged cylinder vacuum still hasn't been imported over. So I have just bought a new Eco friendly cylinder vacuum cleaner to replace the love/loathe Miele S6 Ecoline and I love my new machine. All will be revealed soon!

On go-electrical, they first 3 models & Dual-Clean have been out of stock since September. Can't be bothered to wait any longer so bought myself a new vacuum 3 weeks ago...will upload a thread later.

Introducing.. the Miele S8340 Ecoline Solution.

I adore this vacuum. Low 1200 watt power, it isn't a chore to use like the S6 Ecoline before it and Miele have redesigned the pedals on the AirTeq double pedal suction only floor head so that it isn't painful when stepping on the pedal to push to carpets. It does feel a bit lighter than the Miele S5211 Red Pearl I have, but also it is just so much easier to use - no more having to bend down to change the suction setting and getting a face full of motor air when a foot tap on the buttons does the same job.

Like SEBO's K1 Komfort, the Miele S8340 comes with three main sized floor heads: Suction only floor head with 2 pedals, the rather excellent Twister Parquet floor head that doesn't do a bad job on pick up and the main size Turbobrush. I'm not a keen use of Miele's main size turbo brush but I find the suction and pick is just as good without it. It doesn't quite beat the SEBO D2 series just yet as the Miele still has 6.5 metres of cord but it is still a great vacuum for the price I paid. This is my early Christmas pressie to me!

Long worded review below.

Its unusual to get the turbine head with an ecoline model - usually the turbine head requires the power of the 2200W motors to drive it fast enough that the brush doesn't grind to a halt on carpets.

I presume you need the vac set on MAX to get any useful work done with the turbine head?

Saying that though, my S6220 will drive the turbine head reasonably well at half power on the dial, but I do have short cut pile carpets.

Nice cleaners the S8 range and I was thinking of getting the base model S8310 for myself, as I like the black colour, and I already have 2 turbine floorheads  and the mini turbo tool anyway so don't need another one

Nope, you don't need to set the vacuum cleaner on max to get a decent spin of the turbo brush. Miele's sealed suction has a lot to do with the general strong airflow that already flows through the general Miele design. Even with the S6 Ecoline, the third or forth setting before the suggested decal for the turbo brush gives it a decent enough power and spin.

Whilst vacuums that are eco-branded in nature may have capped motors, the first suction setting is slightly higher and noisier than Miele's standard 2200 watt vacuums, so naturally the next setting or third setting gives enough vroom and power for pick up.
