Here we go again...little plastic pieces breaking off of my Hoover Windtunnel 2 Rewind Pet.

In January 2014, the cord clip near the handle broke. The top part of the clip snapped off after 6 months of use. I decided to use super glue to mend it back onto the vacuum. It took a couple of days to bond, but it held up really well for a while!

It is now June 2015, and the bottom part of the cord clip has started cracking. Well, just this morning, it snapped off completely, just like the top part!

I think the problem is that this thin plastic clip cannot stand up to constant insertion and removal of the cord. But it was really handy, due to the cord coming out towards the bottom of the cleaner.

So what should I do? Should I:

- Super glue it again?
- Hold the cord on the handle as I vacuum?
- Buy a new handle for $28.93?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This vacuum has a 2 year warranty, which expires next month.

just hot glue it on or even super glue it back on. I suppose you could see if its covered by the warranty.

Do you have a Facebook? If so PM Hoover. Two years ago, my Steam Vac would only dispense the water when the clean surge button was pushed in. So I PMed them to see what I should do with it... They sent me a new handle for free, even though the warranty was expired.

I averted my own disaster!

I ultimately decided to super glue the clip back on. My sister assisted me in the process. I need to wait a few days for the glue to bond. Then I'll reinstall the handle onto my vacuum and see how the clip holds up.

HVRVACLVR, I don't have a Facebook, so I can't PM Hoover. Besides, it's just a tiny little clip that broke off. It's not essential to the operation of the vacuum.

In the end...

The super glue job was a complete and utter FAIL. I pushed the cord into the cord clip, and the glued part just snapped right off of the handle!

With 2 weeks left of the 2 year warranty, should I just contact Hoover about getting new parts for my vacuum? It's a bit of a hassle to have to hold the cord with the handle as I vacuum.

Oh, and I've also been meaning to replace my dirt cup since last year. The hinge cracked off, and I can no longer empty it from the bottom.

Ya get it serviced cos it shouldn't do this if you use it with care, it's not really accidental damage, but just design flaws making it unreliable

Hmm...

I do treat my vacuums with care. However, I tend to be a bit reckless when vacuuming floors. Hoover's design flaws in question are thin plastic parts which cannot stand up to regular use. I have used the cord clip a LOT, due to the cord coming out near the bottom of the vacuum.

In addition, I posted about this last year, but the thin plastic dirt cup hinge cracked after 10 months of use. Why did this happen? Because the dirt cup is designed so that the dirt won't fall out easily when emptied from the bottom! And I banged it to get it clean. So I broke the cheaply made hinge. Oh well. I can just twist off the top part of the dirt cup and carefully dump it that way.

Now, I emailed Hoover yesterday about the cord clip issue, but I haven't heard back from them yet.

I will just keep using my Windtunnel until it dies. Hopefully, no other parts should break. Even the retractable cord still works! However, the rest of the machine feels pretty sturdy overall. The warranty is up in July 2015.

Below is a pic showing my new way of holding the cord. In addition, I show the broken cord clip. Sorry about the quality; it was taken using the front-facing camera on my iPhone.

I linked my Vacuumland thread where I discussed the dirt cup problems last year. This was also my first ever post to Vacuumland!

Nick

Why are you putting up with just "using my Windtunnel until it dies" with broken parts? You have 2 parts broken on your vacuum, & NOT from the vacuum being abused, no way could this have been caused by reckless vacuuming. I would call Hoover, get authorization to take it to a service centre, & get it fixed under warranty. You might as well use it instead of living with a broken vacuum!

<div style="margin-top: 14px;">Why not get a quality Metal Vacuum like this Royal?</div>
<div style="margin-top: 14px;">Notice that it has metal cord hooks. This vacuum can last another 20-30 years easy!</div>

Cord hooks on uprights don't tend to last that long, especially the types that have two pieces of plastic bonded onto a plastic handle. It doesn't surprise me in the least that it would snap off after being reglued.

I myself have bought a Hometek upright vacuum. Those in the U.S know it as the Dirt Devil Swerve.

It too, has a cheap cord hook and it doesn't feel well made. However, the rest for the hose at the back came off and doesn't surprise me in the least as it is too vulnerable and not strongly made any way. It is more open at the back compared to the cord hook which is behind the handle at the top.

Sptyks, that Royal looks nice, but how am I going to obtain bags for it?

Rob, I'd rather have a nice, quality bagless vacuum, such as Dyson. I am very defensive about what others think I prefer.

I guess I could write the real values of the free Vine vacuums we have received so far:
Hoover Windtunnel 2 Rewind Pet: $140
Eureka AirSpeed Unlimited Rewind: $100
Bissell C4 Cyclonic Canister Vacuum: $300

So these free vacuums have varying values.

My dad is a part of the Amazon Vine program. He gets to choose what to receive for free in exchange for a review.

Sebo_fan, you are correct. Is the cord clip near the handle broken? I can tell that that's a hose hook you're holding in that picture.

When I went to vacuum the other day, all I did was push the cord into the cord clip, and the freshly glued clip just snapped right back off and onto the floor!

Ty Parwaz...

Yes the hose rest is behind the handle. Luckily the hose is extra long enough to be pulled right over the top of the handle of the Hometek and rested onto the top of the slant dust bin with Dyson like handle.

Using a computer tie won't work to hold that bit of the hose in since the hose would have to come off any way. It can be used manually or slid and locked into the handle at the back.

Oh yes I do believe you'd love this vacuum, Parwaz. It is decked in gunmetal grey with orange Dyson like locks for the hose. Mega cheap at £64.99 Or course it is all TTI all over even if it has the Hometek name. Strong suction on the floor head, not as light as I'd like for it to move and it swivels but not to much of an angle. The cordless Vax Cordless Air is a lot better IMHO for general control and awkward angles.

The biggest downside to this "vacuum" is that it isn't really a mains sized vacuum at all, but rather limited by its small diameter floor head to the dust channel, which has a narrower channel, thus clogging may occur sooner than expected.

CNET did a terrible review of the Dirt Devil version. They slated it for all the wrong reasons, not even considering for one moment that it isn't really a mains sized vacuum.

Wow! has a lot of Dyson features and looks in common :D Whats the performance like? Even though it is likely to clog, I am also interested in the type of brushbar too, like briuhbar stiffness
