Hoover Windtunnel 2 bagged upright?

I saw where someone is locally selling a Hoover Windtunnel 2 bagged. I believe these are fairly rare? At least I don't remember seeing any around. I also think this might be the only upright Hoover made with two motors. Correct me if wrong.

Would this be worth getting from a collector standpoint? They want $40 which seems kind of high to me. But it looks in good shape.

Hoover has made a few machines with two motor systems. One of them I tried to repair for friends several years ago, but the suction motor was dead, and it died ugly; was that a diesel truck or a Hoover vacuum? That’s how bad it was. Interestingly enough, it was a twin chamber bagless upright with duo clean brush roll technology of some sort, similar to what Shark is doing now with their Vertex models, except without the infamous power fins of course. That’s right, shark was not the first one to use duo-clean technology in their uprights; Hoover tried it before Shark was even a name. I also saw a similar Hoover Windtunnel model several years later at Sears, this one had a single brush roller instead of a double one, so my guess is the duo-clean thing didn’t work out so well. Didn’t know they made a bagged machine with a two motor system though.

And it was also two motors with a Brushroll on/off switch. This was actually kind of a neat machine. Especially once I converted it to use one of the bag chambers.

I have that green cleaner.

It is very strong. You must be careful with that brushroll and carpet fibers. I have bags for it too. A great , strong cleaner. But, it's not the first thing I'd save in a fire.

I would say that it is worth getting as they are some what of a rarity nowadays. They were not particularly great machines with numerous flaws with the most prominent being the inflated size and large weight, but the are powerful machines that are decently well built on some areas. It is one of those things that is worth picking up because it is strange. In 20 years, for example, I doubt these will be a common sight even remotely. I particularly want the bagless version to match the bagged one. I passed on one a few years back and regret it. It looked like a monstrosity, but I have grown to like the "charm" of bad machines.

I actually just fully rebuilt one of these. They are not two-motor systems, but they do have lifetime belts, one of which is made by GoodYear (yes, the tire company). The setup is similar to what can be found on a SEBO upright, though different in quite a lot of ways. They are similar in that they have two belts with a pulley connecting them. Fully rebuilding one is not the most simple task, but they are designed decently well for the most part. The one I serviced had a Johnson manufactured motor despite me expecting it to have a Lamb like the WindTunnel V2.

Yes those vacuums are rare. I think they were a sales flop and nobody bought them or they just were not around for their full production run.

Thanks for the info! I don't know why I was thinking the Windtunnel 2 is a two motor setup, but that Goodyear belt is very interesting.

I do still like this era of Hoover because they still had aspects of older Hoovers, like the square plug and the similar cord hooks and attachments like the Elite.

That Hoover Windtunnel Dual V is neat too, nice looking machine there.

I have 1 in perfect out of the box condition. Was a nice idea, but....... not the 1st thing I'd save in a fire.

Wow! I just figured out what machine that was I’ve been talking about: the Dual V!
That was the machine I worked on so many years ago with a dead motor.
What was the deal with the convertible nature of this machine, that is, the ability to put in a bag in place of the twin chamber bin? this feature probably would’ve made that machine last longer than it did with the twin chamber design.
I remember when I worked on the Dual V, I thought the motor was unusually small. Of course, back then I couldn’t foresee what size motors Shark was going to use in their full-sized uprights, and those motors are even smaller than that found in the Dual V.
I also wonder how well that dual channel cleaner head really worked. I never really got to study that aspect of the machine, as by the time I got it, the motor was toast, and for that reason the suction was absolutely terrible.
If any of you who own this machine have a working vacuum gauge, I would be interested to find out what the numbers are for suction and airflow.

Electrolux in the UK had a vacuum with a similar set up called the Power System. We got the bagged variant in the USA as the Eureka Oxygen and the Electrolux Aptitude. It was able to convert from a bagged unit to the Whirlwinds flawed twin chamber cyclonic design.

I don't think you can compare the double brush roll set-ups in the current Shark Duo-Clean uprights with the older Hoover V2 upright. The Hoover had two identical brush rolls completely enclosed in the brush roll chamber. The Shark Duo-Clean power heads have a soft plush brush roll exposed at the front of the power head to grab large pieces of litter without "snow plowing" and to remove fine dust from bare floors. It's completely different from the second brush roller that sits behind it in the power head.

There was also the Eureka Whirlwind version of that Electrolux. As well as the Eureka Airstream that was bagged. And the Kenmore Cyclonic Cleaning System that was bagless.
