Rescued this upright from the curb. Anyone know its exact age?
Only reason I took it is that it is mostly metal and it ~could~ be a commercial model, given its intact 3-wire cord.

The handle bracket is broke but has been cobbled together with scrap metal and bailing wire. It stays together but wants to fall down.

The impeller fan is broken, and it needs a belt and a bag. These three items are required before it is usable.
Rest of it is in good condition.

My intent is to give it away if I can fix the above for 20 bucks or less, as that is all my friend could get for it at her thrift store.
I have a feeling it may cost more than that since belts and bags usually come in a multi pack. IT will likely get purchased by a construction or cleaning crew and used until the bag is full, then chunked.

Ideally, if a local member here wants this, it is free for the taking.

IS the fan part number what is on the fan itself (38755-010)or is there a recent/updated part number?

I know very little about Hoovers so can someone tell me if this machine is worth fixing with a 0 dollar (or negative) profit?
IF it is a good performer then perhaps yes..
If there are any known threads on these here, feel free to point me there.
Thanks!

Oh, Here is some info I found on this site:

Cool find...

Yeah, it almost looks like Hoover's interpretation of a Sanitaire. I'd definitely say it was worth saving. I'm not sure when it would have been made, probably 1970s or '80s. I'm sure some of the Hoover experts on here could give you more detailed information, but I'm always glad when a vintage machine gets pulled back from the jaws of death.

Going by what I have read about the Hoover Guardsmans on this site (several models were made), I agree with Edgar that it's definitely worth the cost of repairing it—whether by you or someone else; unless the motor is shot.

I searched online using the part number and found at least one for sale at eBay (I only did a cursory search):

The handle bail (part # 41416030) is also currently available at eBay albeit in a different color:

Here's a Guardsman thread: https://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?1651

Hopefully someone here will want it even if only for parts. Otherwise, you could give FB, Craigslist, or other sites a shot.

SAVE!

I figured this would have been the decision, lol...

The more I looked at this thing, the more I liked it, and agree to saving it.
It is a very simple and crude design but seemed like it worked well, given how many years this general design was made. Like Kirby I suppose, but much simpler.
It took me only a few minutes to get the fan off, much easier than a Kirby.

The die cast aluminum base is its strong point. The rest of it is in pretty good condition, just needs a good wash-up and polishing.

IF you want it, you are welcomed to it - just come pick it up.
Not sure how your mechanical skills are to replace the fan...
If that might be out of your desires, just get and bring a replacement and I can install it 'while you wait'.
Just let me know.

As nice as it could be, I am so much out of room here I just cannot keep it. I have a Royal to eventually move out also.
