Here's the second vacuum cleaner I found yesterday. It need a little TLC because it had bad fitted bag so it's full of dust and need a careful cleaning of the motor, I usually do it with an air compressor and a hepa vacuum cleaner...we'll see if I can do it next weekend!
This one has a stupid plastic brushroll with bristles and plastic beating bars, nothing special, but I have its original instruction booklet showing it, so it must be original. Funny thing: replacement brushroll is unavailable at all but there is the chanche to have a modified convertible brushroll to fit it...

It has a plastic brushroll??

I've never seen a plastic brushroll in a Hoover like that before. Is the brush/beater bar setup the same as a typical classic Convertible or Dial-a-Matic, just in plastic?

I like the colors of that model (almost makes it look more "commercial" than their brighter models). Is that the switch on top of the bag chamber? Our Dial-a-Matics never had that!

Nice Hoover!

Me either, It is vrey nice Tommy. Could you show us the brushroll.Im thinking its simillar to the UK Turbomaster/US Innovation.
Congrats on this one.
Kenny

Hello! Its plastic brushroll in much different from the Turbopower/turbomaster's , it's in black glossy plastic with one single raw of thin bristles and one segmented triangular shaped plastic beater bar. For what I know all hoover UK Convertibles made in France after 1984 had it. It's a shame! The only pro is that the vacuum cleaner is quieter than those with the traditional brushroll.
For what concerns the switch, all the DAMs made in France since 1975 have it in that position, in this case it's a 2-speed switch, you can choose between 530 and 800 watts!
I'll take better pictures as soon as I can

Fabulous!

Those are such beautiful cleaners! I would love to have one of those later-80s versions of the DAM/Convertible someday... they were long discontinued in the US by 10 years or so... I know Mike in the UK has a beautiful specimen of that cleaner in a deep red color.

It would also be cool to get ahold of a plastic brushroll and try it in an American machine... Too bad the plastic brushroll was never available aftermarket for the US cleaners.

Wow! It's so interesting seeing that modern looking hose paired with the Dial-A-Matic body style. Thanks for posting this Tommy!

thank you for your nice replies,
well I like the style of the tools as well, but I prefer the older style, the last one with cream hooverflex hose, alluminium wands with brown latches and cream tools wich came with the cream and brown mod U 5034 from 1984. I'll post pictures of a brand new set I found weeks ago! What I don't like of this black tool set is that the hose is no longer a hooverflex but a standard plastic hose!
take care you all,
Tommy

Hose handle switches

Button 'b' is the release button for the attachment fitted in the handle. You can see a faint outline of the spring latch that rises, situated between hole 'a' and button 'b'.

Switch 'c' is actually just a simple air vent slider.

I was never a fan of petrol pump handles - I found that they were awkward to manoeuvre.

Hello, I definately agree with you, I hate that kind of hose end and, for what I've been experiencing, both the simple one and the electric one were really a mess to use, considering that tools didn't have any swivel.Another example of forced design not followed by real convenience.
