Hello, I had forgotten to say that last saturday I won an auction for a wonderful red hoover Convertible U 4147, a model that wasn't very popular over here because in the same year the new lightweight "Senior Ranger" U 4064 was lounched and probably looked more attractive than the old fashioned U 4147.
I haven't received it yet, but I can load the aucyion's picture.

Imported Models....

Tommy

As you may have realised thats a US made model, and as such has the handle switch and the cable hooks on the "wrong" side of the handle.

We had it as well- It was exclusive to the House of Frazer department store tho and is VERY rare- I only know one collector that has one!.

Defiantly a nice find :)

Seamus

P.S it was actually the 2nd Convertible we had in the UK, the 1st being the 1973/5?? U4003. Im lucky enough to have a November 1974 example- notice the "Made in USA" sticker above the logo on the hood.

no, it's not the same.
it featured the same hood and handle base as model 4014 but with adjustment setting window adn traditional hoover handle and handle grip.

How odd.......

Hey Tommy..

A US made model without the handle switch.......

Jeff Tom or Fred -Was this model ever released in the US?????

Seamus

Hi Seamus,
yes it is very similar to model U 4389, but model U 4147 has the plastic base, so it's much lighter weight than it and there's no switch on the handle. It also sounds different from others UK built models, like model U 4002 and 4004.
I really love it!

another thing

the plastic base is not the same as those of old convertibles, but is the same as the plastic US "squared hood" series of the early eighties. There's also another hoover logo inside.
