I was lead to believe that the Hoover Turbopower 3 autosense models did not sense as well as the turbopower 2 autosense and 1000, is that true? And if so, why? Was it just because the hose was longer and it took longer for the dirt to get to the sensor?

I also read somewhere that the hose on these models was far two narrow for a clean air machine and that is might of put strain on the motor, well when I took the hose off and put it back on when the machine was running it didn't sound like the motor was being restricted so is this true?

I heard that these machines clog a lot, now I haven't had that problems yet but apparently that is because the dirt channels in the cleaner head were larger that the diameter of the hose so things got stuck? And finally where is the air fresheners supposed to fit? Does it go in the post motor filter cage?

Any suggestions will be gratefully appreciated.

Alex.

sorry I forgot to mension...

If you use the autosense in full power all the time will you risk burning out the motor? someone said they were not designed to work in high power constatly?

Alex

There are bottles necks and sharp turns throughout the cleaner which is why it clogs.

I have found the main places are the cleaner head, and the last 2 bends in the hose. (obviously not helped by the small diameter hose)

I wonder if the smaller diameter hose helped the autosense as it increased the speed the dirt travelled? Maybe then making it easier to detect?

Those machines had sealed suction, so blocking the hose strained not only the motor, but also the bag door and the inner skin to the bag chamber.

The inner bag chamber skin had little protuberances that locked onto the outer bag chamber shell. Stress from blocked hose syndrome was enough to break these little pegs.

The bag door can eventually split above and below the oval decal. Cause: full suction with blocked hose.

I have heard people say that they don't know there vacuum cleaner is colgged so they take it to a vacuum shop to get repaired, well surely you would be able to tell by the difference in motor pitch and obviously it not picking up properly. Seriously why do people need to take clogged vacuums in to a repair shopwhen it is very easy to do your self.

Also did hoover not realise that the hose was a bit to thin and things could get lodged in it :S but also putting strain on the motor and bag housing? The turbopower 2's were made out of abs plastic so surely it would be tuff enough to take the strain I would like to think.

You would think that the user would notice the blockage in plenty of time, and many did which is why the were taken for repair. The upright cleaners posed more of a problem because they block more than cylinders and the sweeping action does of course continue to work even when blocked, so some people thought the cleaner was still working to some extent as debris was still being picked up. I only saw one Turbopower that had the bag door split, but as already has been said, it is a result of the constant sucking which pulls the bag door inwards and can eventually split the door. It is only easy to unblock these cleaners if one knows how to do it. If you don't know how to do it, then it is very difficult.

I have said it myself that the original hose was too narrow and it may be this which you refer to. You won't notice it in an apparent kind of way, it is more the long term problem of things getting stuck in the hose and such. I have never seen that many of these cleaners which hard burned out, so I don't think the blocked hoses were finishing these machines off, but they did cause lots of problems. Why Hoover reverted to the narrow hoses on later machines I just don't know.

The air freshener does indeed sit in the post motor filter area, in the removable grill. There is a special square air freshener made by Hoover. I only remember it being available in one fragrance.

I..

Hi, I remember the air freshener for the Turbopower 2 and 3s.
I'm sure as well that it only came in one sent & I did not like the smell of it.
I always prefered the original 3 sents of the original Turbopower air fresheners.
