Something for Christmas,

The Turbopower 1000 which seemed to replace the Turbomaster as Hoover UKs TOL upright range in the 1990s.

In immaculate condition and runs like a dream.

The previous owner had bought it to use in her caravan, no not a static caravan but a touring one!

Hence it had seen very little use!

Now it did come with the Permabag which I suspect the previous owner bought as an optional extra as it was not automatically available with this model.

I have removed the Permabag and re introduced regular paper bags as it was intended in the brochure.

Turbopower 1000

That was the range that was advertised on television with a briefcase of diamonds spilling onto the carpet. The Turbopower 1000 was used to retrieve the jewels and the 'Autosense' feature detected every last one! LOL!

The Turbopower 1000 was also featured in the Axminster Carpets owner's leaflet, as the proper way to look after your carpet.

Oh!

I notice you have two crevice tools, the small one and the long 'scabbard' type. I think the long one came from the Turbopower 3 range, later. Maybe she bought that extra, too.

The extension tube(s) should be stored upside-down, with the wider part at the base of the cleaner.

Funny you should mention the scabbard arrangement. Paul and myself were debating it this weekend just gone. The brochure shows it how we have it in the photos, yet it fits better upside down.

The scabbard crevice tool was standard on all Turbopower 2 from day dot IIRC. My Aunty Caroles TP2 800w Autosense from the first series had the long and short crevice tools on. I remember the first time I saw it and used it I was fascinated with the arrangement of the plastic clips inside the dusting brush and upholstery tool which held them onto the long crevice tool so you had a long reach.

They dropped the small crevice tool on TP3 cleaners and the later TP2 cleaners when the purepowers took off as TOL cleaners.

~I rememeber the diamonds advert but when talking to other members nobody seemed to themselves so thanks for reassuring me that I didnt imagine it!

Didnt it go something like - all you saw was a bag of diamonds tipped onto some scales and weighed.

Diamonds scattered onto floor for a mysterious pair of stockinged legs donned with killer heels pushing the TP1000 around.

Permabag was tipped into the scales which didnt come to the full amount but a second later the last piece did fall out? -

It was quite a sexy Hoover advert IIRC.
Perhaps aimed at the proffessional person - think it may of been an office setting or a very grey and black lounge.

Will try to find it on youtube

Yes, that's the advert. Wasn't there also a store display promotion for winning a diamond in a Hoover competition draw?

I got one of the first Turbopower 2 'Autosense' models when they first came out. It had one extension tube, short crevice tool, mechanical bag-check indicator and eventually, the blessed tools kept falling out. My brother still has it somewhere. Later versions had electronic bag-check, so maybe they had adjusted the tool set features too.

I later got Turbopower 3. It had the scabbard tubes, wider, longer 'stair-cleaning' hose, and moulded clips to hold dusting brush, etc. in storage places.

Now here's MY question...does anyone else remember the TV ad for the Purepower range when they first came out? Or, better still, have a copy they could YouTube for me?

I remember it

It ran something like: "The inventors of the HOOVER cleaner have re-invented it for today" (showing a sepia-tinted Edwardian lady, two Hoover technicians and a Hoover from the year Dot).

A photo flash, and transform to mid-Nineties; Hoover tech-bods magnify carpet pile; computer generated dustmites are gaily dancing along, swinging parasols, blowing stoor upwards; lady sneezes; Hoover Purepower sucks the buggers up and locks them into the self-sealing dustbag.

Wasn't the tagline something like "The Purepower of Hoover" ?

Jack (off-topic)

Just wanted to know if you've had your mitts on the new Miele upright yet? What do you think of it?

YES! That's it, you have exactly the same memories of it that I do! I have a (very!) vague feeling that the sepia-tinted "vintage" section may have been filmed in front of the same window of the Hoover Building where I did my interview with Carol Thatcher:

I thought that it was filmed in front of a fireplace, or a section of wall. Certainly, after the photo-flash to 'present day', the room seems to be open-plan.

I did have it on videotape, years ago 'cause I rewound and analysed it slowly (LOL!). The trouble with tape is you lose track of which tape is which; end up taping over it, etc. All my tapes got the big heave-ho a year ago now and the video recorder went screwy three years ago. (I've since gone digital with pvrs).
