Here's the Slimline I got last week. It's a model 2017. Is the 1020 convertible the match to this one?
I gave her the full spa treatment. Here's the before picture next to the super J I also got.

It seems like every canister I get has a bunch of sawdust in the bag. Old tank = shop vac :(
I almost hated to throw out the vintage bag. They don't make em like this anymore!

The end result. This has to be the best condition original machine I have. Too bad it didn't have any of the tools.
It's hard to belive this was Hoover's BOL model!
And I was real surprised with the suction! I don't have a guage but with the hand over the end test it gave the super J a real run for the money. A lot more power than my connies.
Over all I'm very happy with this one.
Now let's see some more Slimlines!

I have the same one which iirc I got during the convention at Jimmy S place. It's an interesting vac but it's not as easy to use as the connie for dragging around the room.
Looking in an old 1978 Canadian Tire catalog the connie was $39 and the slimline was $65 so it wasn't quite bottom of the line.. LOL

Hoover Slimline

Rob,
Did the Slimline have the same motor and power as the portable? I remember friends buying one the Slimlines at the old Ayrway discount store and I think it was only $39.95. I remember thinking how could they sell a new Hoover for only $39.95 when they were asking $19.95 for just a set of tools for the uprights. I remember it was kind of hard to use because of the square shape, short cord and short hose. They didn't have theirs long before it was replaced with a new 1205 Electrolux. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Brings back memories!

The Slimlines are great

Yes, and they STILL made a profit from them. AGAIN, making a Portable, Slimline, and Miss Connie HOOVER, all taking the same bag, ALL of them w/ same motor (except Connie) was BRILLIANT.. All those choices.. one bag, one motor. THAT is "cost efficiency at it's best.

Hoover Slimline

Thanks again for the wonderful pictures and information on the Slimlines. I got to thinking about the $39.00 Hoover using the same motor as the top of the line Hoover Dail-A-Matic Powerdrive which my parents have and paid $169.00 and it kind of makes me feel like we were raped!
In a way I wish Hoover had gone the way of Air-Way,Electrolux and Kirby and just produced "ONE" top of the line vacuum like the ones they had in the 30's and 40's instead of trying to be everything to everybody. The same idea as when long time Oldsmobile customers bought cars and thought they were getting Olds engineering and ended up with a Oldsmobile in name only but with a Chevrolet motor. Another example would be when GM sold Frigidaire to White Consolidated. The name was the same but it was a very different product quality. I never under stood how making vacs for Wards and Penny's could build your quality or brand image. I know this is only something that would matter to a vac collector. Thanks again for all the great pictures.

Just thought I'd add my Slimline model 2001 to the mix. Does anyone have dates for the various slimline models? I have a 2011 as well.

Oh wow, never seen Penncrest versions before! So did the Penncrest models have separate tool storage pouches instead of storing them inside?
