Hoover PowerMax Supreme

Hello. Today, I was given a Hoover PowerMax Supreme U3729-930 from 1993. The handle has a bolt covering the self propel and the switch for the Power Drive is missing. When I loosen the bolt, the handle feels loose. Do I need a new handle grip in order to get the self propel to work again? Also, how would I get scratches out of the hood? By the way, I was given this from the Vac Shack in Festus

You probably need a whole new grip assembly. The two halves top and bottom. Top half usually has the switches with it. I’ve seen them on eBay from time to time. Also, check the self propel cable to see if it moves the actuator on the motor base. If it doesn’t you’ll probably need a new cable as well.

PowerMax Headlight Lens

Hi. I took off the headlight lens to check the bulbs, and now I can't get it back on. How do I get it back on without breaking it?

This PowerDrive engagement design was always faulty IMO. People carry it by the PowerDrive handle and not by the carrying handle or handle yoke, so over time it stretches out or breaks the thin little wire that connects the PowerDrive handle to the transmission. It is also common for them to get hit on the handle and it can break that way as well. I have two different Hoovers and both of them have this problem.

I'd make sure the belts for the PowerDrive are good first, and if they are, the wire that engages the PowerDrive has likely come off from the handle or has been stretched out.

I forgot to link it, there's instructuons here on how to repalce or inspect the drive cable wire, its mostly the same on much of Hoover's powerdrive models.

Scratch

Use a wet Brillo pad in circular motion. It won't take off completely but it will make it not as noticable.
