Finally got a machine I've been wanting since they came out! I saw a Hoover Lightweight bagged Platinum Collection upright on Craig's List. The guy initially wanted 95 dollars for it, and I thought that was too much.... so I waited, and when I saw him put it on there for 49 dollars, I offered 40 and he said yes! Yay! It was an hour drive, but so worth it. The machine looks and works just like new and it is so much more powerful and quieter than an Oreck. It didn't come with the companion canister, which is fine because I don't have the storage space for it anyway. I have two Orecks now, and to make room for this one, I'm going to give my co-worker back her black Oreck.... she gave it to me to fix because she'd clogged it up by sucking up dog mess.... I don't like it and I already have the vintage 100C with a foot switch that I like better anyway.... She was asking me to find her a light vacuum because her husband only has a Hoover Widntunnel V2, and it's way too heavy for her.... I really only need one Oreck! LOL I saw a Riccar Supralite a few months ago for 35 dollars, but I never wrote the seller, but when I saw this I just had to jump. It smells a little like a dog, and the bag is half full of stinky dog hair.... I looked at for bags at Lowes and Bed Bath and Beyond (I've seen the bags there before), but didn't find any, so I'm going to see if I can take the collar off this bag and modify it to fit an Oreck bag until I can get some Q bags online. I haven't tried it out yet more than just running it at the guys house to make sure it ran, because it smells so badly of dog, but I can't wait to play with it! I guess this one takes a V belt, is is supposed to be permanent?

Anyone else have one of these? I want the whole Platinum collection, but since I don't have room, I'm just going to stick with this one for now....

I've been getting a lot of vacuums lately, the Z, then the direct drive, and now this, I need to put on the brakes here or I'm not going to have room to walk!

I love the linx platinum stick vac. That vacuum works better than any corded stick vac I have.

I just modified an Oreck bag and put the collar on it from the Hoover Q bag.... threw the Oreck collar and the Hoover Q bag in the trash.... I used a strong super glue and it set fast and I was able to take this puppy for a test spin (kids can't wait to play with their new toys you know!)... I'd just gotten an unopened package of Oreck bags at the thrift store for 2 bucks, and with only one Oreck that I use once a year, I won't be going through them any time soon. I hear the new ones are better, but the 100C doesn't pick up enough to fill a bag anyway LOL

I love how the switch and the high/lo buttons light up blue... that is awesome. Like the Z, this one has a slow start where it gently revs up to full power. It works GREAT on a bare floor and on my thin flat carpet in the apartment the machine just pulled itself along effortlessly. I tried it on the medium pile area rug I have in the bedroom (the one I use in most of the Youtube videos) and it did fine there. I tried it on the new brown shag rug and not only could I not push it AT ALL, the brushroll slowed considerably, almost stopping and when I pulled it back, it smashed the pile flat as a pancake. This machine sounds great and picks up amazingly.... it feels REALLY solid too. Actually, it is so comfortable and well balanced, it felt like an extension of my own arm. What a blast, on anything but high pile (at least I could push the Orecks on the shag rug!)... The only bone of contention is that they placed the handle release on the wrong side... I don't have any other vacuums with it on the right side and it just defies logic.... I know Eureka has done that before too and I just don't understand the reason...

Mieles7, (btw, I saw the new Miele upright at Bed Bath and Beyond for 499... blue base model with a knob instead of electronic suction control.... and a white straight suction canister as well, it was a surprise to find them there!), I have heard that the Linx stick vac is one of the best and I'd definitely buy one if I found a good deal on it.... It got such good reviews that I've actually recommended them to people even though I've never owned one.

Hey Bobby! Looks like you are on a winning streak here! That Hoover Platinum lightweight has been highly rated by Consumer Reports - excellent at carpet cleaning and bare floor cleaning. It seems to be rated better than any Oreck because it deep cleans carpets better for half the price of an Oreck. The Oreck Forever Series Pilot has better emissions control and is easier to handle because it is one pound lighter (12 pounds versus 13 pounds for the Hoover), but the Hoover is better at pet hair removal and deep carpet cleaning. Detailed test results

CARPET CLEANING: The Hoover Platinum Bagged UH30010COM does an excellent job of removing the embedded mixture of sand and powder from our soiled test carpets. This is a measure of how well a vacuum removes the dirt hidden deep in the carpet and not visible to the user's eye.

BARE FLOOR: The Hoover does an excellent job of removing sand from our vinyl floor, leaving very little behind and not scattering sand across the floor.

PET HAIR: This model does an excellent job at picking up pet hair from carpets using its power head. The visual inspection of the test carpet following the pet hair test reveals no traces of pet hair left behind and very little pet hair caught in the brush roll.

USABILITY: This Hoover has a nice light design style that does not sacrifice on cleaning power. Changing the bag is easy with a slide and lock bag method and a zippering of the outer casing. The drawback of this model is that it does not accept tools, and requires the use of an included hand vac if the cleaning job requires tools.

In my opinion, they should have bundled the Platinum bagged upright, the canister, and the linx stick vac together. This way, you would have a vacuum for any situation. My three most used vacuums are the linx, my oreck xl, and an old metal eureka canister.

I used it again tonight and it really is such a great machine. It doesn't creak when I put the handle up and the wheels don't squeak and the handle doesn't have any play, this is the most modern and "in the best condition" vacuum I have and it just works so well.. I truly adore it!

I gave my co-worker back her Oreck today and she gave me 20 dollars for it, so not bad for something I got for free and just had to clean up and unclog and buy a light bulb for....

I was very surprised at how powerful it is. Mine actually creates a suction to the carpet. However, that also makes it a little difficult to push sometimes.

I wonder if the Platinum would work better on the shag carpet if you set the power to "low".....maybe that would reduce the suction enough to just let the brush roll do its thing and make the vac easier to move.

I really like the bag collar holder on this vac! That's one of the downsides of a lot of the Hoover WindTunnels - it's really difficult to make sure you have secured the bag collar because you are working blindly behind the disposable bag. With the Platinum, it helps you secure the bag easily.

Brian, turning the power down makes it worse.... then the brushroll will barely run and it feels like the V belt is going to break or burn or something...

This has quickly become my favorite vacuum cleaner, and I don't plan on using anything else as a daily driver for a long time! I just love everything about it )

I had one of these for about a year. I really loved it at first...made cleaning the stairs a breeze! It groomed the rugs really well but after a few months the machine began to smell terrible. It smelled like a wet dog. I tried changing bags, using dryer sheets to mask the smell, and even used Odo-Ban on the bag housing to help rid it of odors. After awhile I also began missing the ability to quickly grab dog hair off my sofa with an attached hose. Finally, at about the one year mark, my Hoover stopped turning on. Rather than have another vac in the shop for months (my Dyson DC23 motorhead spent about 3 months in the repair shop) I opted to trash it and replace it with a Miele S7 Twist. I have a Miele S520 canister that's about 12 years old and is STILL going strong so I felt confident in my Twist purchase. Although, I do feel like my SEB 236 powernozzle grooms my rugs better. If it lasts and doesn't develop an odor, I say enjoy it! It really cleaned well while it worked.

Although not a REAL HOOVER, it's quite nice. But, WHY did they put the handle release on the RIGHT side? THhey've ALWAYS been on the left. I know lots of them have been broken because people "think" it's on the left. THe little "cannister" is a poor copy of the Portapower/Swingette... the tools look like they should be on a toy.

Sweet deal Bobby, I almost bought one last week on Amazon, but i couldnt see spending the 200 bucks on a vacuum that I probably wont use alot. I do need a new daily driver for upstairs but I prefer a canister, especially if my sister uses it. She tends to pick up things that she shouldnt.


But it does look like a nice vacuum and you sure got a great deal.
