Must we call it Oreck killer? Can't we call it knockoff? It may be more powerful than the Oreck classic line, but I'd like to see it in a head-to-head competition with the Oreck XL-21. I'd put my money on the XL-21. In any event, I find it so ironic that at the same time Hoover is offering a separate compact canister with a lightweight upright, Oreck is offering their first residential upright with tools on board (ala Oreck Halo).

OK--No more Oreck Killer

It reminds me more of the older Hoover front bag. My brother had one, I can't remember the model now.

I will tell you with all honesty. Had this Hoover been available last year, I don't think I would have bought my Riccar Supralite, much as I like it.

Karl,

I would agree, I still think the Oreck XL-21 is a great vacuum. We must remember, just because the Hoover has 5.5 amps...it may or may not clean any better. In this economy, Oreck will be using the "Going Green" theme in it's marketing. Less energy, better enviroment.

Hopefully, soon I will get a chance to try out the new Hoover. I have seen it at Wal-Mart and must say, it does look like a well built machine. Looking at the brush roll in these pictures makes me wonder though...there seems to be a lot of space between each tuft...and I am betting they are rather stiff... so wondering if it may be a bit to aggressive. Perhaps once I get to try one out, I will know the answers to these questions.

The color scheme is nice! The portable would do more for me if the tools were a far better quality!

Suction

Does it actually create a suction to the carpet or does the nozzle shoe just ride over the carpet on those two little front wheels?

Hoover Vs Oreck--How bout bringing out the Hoover "Jr" series machines-these could go up against Orecks.I am just not impressed by the new Hoover "Plasticville" machines.Think I also like the older design Hoover "PortaPower" better-beleive the commercial version is still available thru WW Grainger.
