The rating plate will state something like Made by Hoover Limited Great Britain for The Hoover Company- All US 9 series Heavy Duty machines from the 913 onward were made over here as were the US Lightweights 1330 etc(Although on the 1340 onward the bags/handles were added in NC)

Theres only one problem to finding this out. As you can see in the second picture from the top, the model plate is almost completely gone. The only way I could tell what model stamped into the metal on the bottom of the machine.

The 636 looks very similar to your 638, although the number on my 636 doesn't go all the way around the base like yours does. Here is the bottom plate. It just as well may be a UK built machine, but I just wish the model plate wasn't worn off like it is :/

Id say....

That its a UK machine as I dont think the Canadian factory would have built it with a footswitch etc. Also note the HOOVER on the hood is picked out in white like our 638 whereas the US version its unhighlighted......

On the number 6

Apart from the interesting points Seamus makes about the "Hoover" being highlighted and "carpets" as opposed to "rugs", I must say, having done some work on my 638 very recently, this machine looks absolutly identical.

Now it may be just a co-incidence but the Canadian version of our 375 was model 376, and I believe also that the Canadian version of the Hoover 417 was 416. Was there a Canadian version of our 119 (US = 115)? what model would that be?

I believe it would be a model 118? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they look awfully similar. Here is a link to pictures of a model 118 that I got from a google search.

Daniel :-)
