wish i had a pound for everyone of these ive done in the last 40 years still prefer the older model with the round belt though this one has no beater bars so it wont make that droning sound that Hoover are famous for

Great restoration job you have done there Anthony .Have one of these Juniors in my collection too .Well done and a nice thought about giving the vacuum to the old lady at work .I bet she was so pleased with it after the Vax !!

I agree - the Junior U1104 is one of my favourites - one of the best classic humble Hoover uprights from the UK. You should have kept it though.[this post was last edited: 6/16/2013-18:28]

What model was the crappy vax?

not sure what model it was it was orange and black with the clear dust bin on the front you know the one it should be sold with a pair of ear defenders.I didnt keep it because i already have another one and i only have a 2 bed house so i have to be selective on what i keep .the old lady [Phyliss] was over the moon with it she has had three juniors in her 90 odd year life time and only bought the vax because she could not get another as i said earlier its great to be able to spend time on a machine instead if just getting it working and back to its owner theres nothing more satisfying than switching on after a full strip down clean and reasembly.

Oh if its bagless then no wonder it could be termed "crappy".

I, have a Hoover Compact and a beautiful Hoover Junior, in cream and green, circa 1970's, however has never attempted to open or restored a Hoover Junior.
Apart from replacing the bearings on the roller brush and reconditioning the rollerbrush, washing the bag and so on, I have always side stepped the total refurbishment.
Maybe it is time to step into the dance and face it head on.

Nice job! I had one of these, refurbed it like you did and sold it to an old lady for her upstairs machine, she was thrilled with it.
Amazing it picked that much up till the end, proves they are great!

there's nothing like
.......holding a 'chalky white' 'bedding-in' stick against the commutator and seeing a modest and even sparking is occuring, then you know the refurb is complete!

A great and thorough job done, its reassuring to see that others are as fussy as myself. The 1104 was the last decent junior; knocked patches off the turbos.
