Hoover Junior 370 - polished alloy

Here's one of my 370s - the only one I have ever seen which is polished like the big Hoovers. My theory is that it is one of the 1935 Jubilee models - maybe they were polished to make them special. Pity I dont have the right bag!

I've got a number of 370 Juniors and I also haven't seen one in the flesh, which has been polished up like this.

My theory is that they weren't polished up like this in the factory and that someone has done this more recently in the machine's history. Of course it's possible, as you say, that Hoover might have done this as a Special..but then the machine would have needed to be kept repolished somewhat to maintain this sort of gleam surely?

Is there any reason why you can't take a rather faded 370 and buff it up in this way? Perhaps I'll give it a go when I get chance?

I am sure that the Paul Linnell collection has one 370 polished up just like this one. It was NOT factory fresh like this, and was polished rather than repainted when it was restored.

I know mine is a painted finish, albeit restored rather well by its previous owner.

It does however work rather well as a polished finish dont ya think!

I have tried to polish another 370 I had some years ago - I couldnt do it - the metal did not come up properly - just a dull finish. I assumed from that that this polished 370 was made from the more expensive magnesium alloy used for the castings of the 800 and 450.

So I still dont know - why would anyone go to the trouble of polishing this model, which after all is the cheapest model of the range, unless it is for some short lived special run. Polishing is a time consuming process - I talked once to a chap who had worked in the Hoover Perivale factory about it.

The model number of this 370 is 3157912. Dont know whether anyone knows if this indicates a date.

Has anyone ever come across a polished 375?

It would have been originally painted brown, but was rebuilt and restored by polishing the base. It still looks great!

That Hoover 370 Junior might be the best looking metal vacuum i have ever seen. Pure awesomeness! I only know machines of this era from the Royal's i have. That Hoover is so far ahead of Royal it makes my head swim. Funny my Dad used to use that expresion and would have seen one of these no doubt during the 50's and 60's in his travels through the northern mid west as a floor covering sales rep. for the Kentile corporation.[this post was last edited: 2/22/2014-17:41]

I distinctly remember

........about eighteen months to two years ago a polished 370 just like Jonathan's appeared on ebay. It was located in I think; Northampton and was a 'collect only'.

It was in the same top notch condition and the seller said it ran well.

It only fetched around £50!!

Jonathan is that machine and yours one in the same?

Even if its not its still a beauty.....all your machines from what I have seen are striking!

Polished 370

That might actually have been Paul Linell's, as he sold off some of his collection a couple of years ago, or maybe a little bit longer than that
