Hoover Grease Gun Fittings

I am looking for the two piece brass fitting that fit onto a grease gun that was used to grease the brush roll and bottom motor bearings. I know they are quite rare since Hoover isn't really Hoover anymore. I would like to purchase one if anyone has an extra set they want to sell.I have a lot of Hoover convertibles that need their bearings greased and I don't know how to grease them without the Hoover brass two piece fitting to go on a grease gun.. You do not need to have a grease gun to lubricate the bearings in a Hoover Convertible. For the bottom motor bearing, I just put a few drops of 3-in-1 BLUE LABEL motor oil and then, while wearing latex or vinyl gloves, take some good quality automotive bearing grease out of the coffee can that the grease often comes in with a finger and pack the area of the bearing. You should check out this thread from the Vintage Forum Archives for instructions on how to grease the bottom motor bearing. I am unable to explain how to grease the brushroll unless I know what models you have as some models have different brushrolls than others.

Please note:

You will need to take the hood off to get your Convertible taken apart to the point mentioned at the beginning of the thread. There will be two screws underneath your Convertible that hold the hood on. Also, some of your Convertibles may not have the speed switch that is mentioned in the thread, in which case you will just have to skip that step.

greasing bearings

you should never put oil in a ball bearing it will wash out the grease. only ball bearing grease should be used, I like dark blue grease the best. the thicker the better. to grease a hoover bearing with out a hoover fitting you can use a grease gun by forcing grease into the bearing but hold a finger on the other side of the bearing so the grease forces in to the bearing. an order to do this you must take apart the motor and remove the armature so you can get to the bearing. the top sleeve bearing can be oiled with 3-in-one motor oil, blue bottle.

finger pack the grease into the brass bearing until it squirts out the small vent hole indicating it is fully packed.

Holy hell!! Grease in a sleeve bearing??? Are you nuts???

OIL goes into the Bronze sleeve bearing!!! Grease DESTROYS sleeve bearings!!!

The correct method to lubricate a dry sleeve bearing is to take some cotton tips, soak them in 3-in-1 oil (the Blue can, not the Black & Red, even though we in the UK don't have a choice in that matter), clean out the bearing until the tips come out clean, then with the bearing placed on a few layers of kitchen paper, fill the bearing with oil, leave it to soak in, then mop out the excess and refit.
