Hoover find of finds on Hoover day of days!

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Welcome to the dark side :-)

A Turbopower? How COULD you?

Only joking! Wow, that's an ace find, that really is a beautiful shade of red. Such a shame these are so rare. I saw the remains of one at Ritchie from Crawley's work, the plastique on that snapped like a chocolate bar, quite disconcerting!

What's your first impressions of it? I weren't expecting them to feel so substantial, the quality of their build is quite unlike most new vacuums. Definitely a nice old-fashioned feel to them. I feel bad at curling my upper lip at the wee beasties in the past...

So now you've got one you can't use much as its fragile, and I've got one I can't use much as it leaks dust... Race you for getting a usable one!

Hi mate,

I didn't realise you lived so close. I knew you were around the Derby area, have done for a while, but getting married and moving from Sutton in Ashfield, to Bingham, has taken up a whole lot of my time, and my intentions to make myself known have fallen by the wayside! :D

I absolutely LURVE you collection of Kirby's. I think you collection must be among the finest not only in the UK, but the world!!!!

I might have something which you may be interested in. I have a collection of framed prints of kirby machines through the years. One has a broken glass, but the print is fine. Email me if you are iterested. :D They aren;t gonna go anywhere fast!

If you email, I will send you my contact number. Another collector so close is great to know.

I have been collecting for about 4 years now. I have always loved Hoover cleaners, and had had a number of them through the years, my first an 867 constellation given to me when I was about 5. This was thrown out in a parent imposed clearout as it was considered dangerous because it got warm? Oh if only they knew! :D The present collection was started with my 119. I remember my paternal grandmother having had one in her shop in Nottingham when I was small, (Late 70's early 80's). I loved that hoover, the colour, the way the bag inflated and the noise. So when I saw one almost mint and all original on Ebay I had to have it, and that was it. I had the bug again. Jack now has possesion of the second addition, Rosie the abandoned 652. Again all original, and chucked in a skip at the local tip. I had to rescue her, (along with a 1969 1346).
It has all stemmed to the 70 machines I have now, from there.

You can see some of my collection on THE CLASSIC HOOVER EMPORIUM which is my attempt at the post war chapter on Hoover UK's history. I have a world of work to do to bring this up to the same standard as Jacks VINTAGE HOOVER EMPORIUM though. LOL.

I look forward to hearing more from you mate.

Happy hoovering, (Kirby'ing if you like! LOL).

Clark.

Hoover - Generation Future!!!

Ohhh Jack Its a slippery slope, first its one..then..who knows how many, you`ll just have to go for the Blue & Green to match!! If I think of Hoover Turbopower I always "Think Red" the U2194 was so ahead of its time..so radically different.....and then later the Flame Red of the U2336 really does make your eyes Pop Out!!!!

Lovely Vac, keep it safe its a Very Very Delicate beasty...so much so as it ages...

Boys, a lovely collection of Turbopowers there, a classic collection as ever, will look even better with a few more added after the Turbopower stash find last week..me thinks theres room for a little "Mauve & Green" in that line up,

Oooops,

Sorry 'bout that double post chaps and chapesses. Silly lil old me! ;)

(Slinks off to a corner to sit facing the wall for an hour!).

How do..

great U4362 Tommy. really a rather rare cleaner, so I am told.
from what i have gleened, the UK price of turbomasters increased by £10 the higher up the range you went (or thereabouts anyway). as such, people tended to go for the basic hardbag over the basic softbag - hence the rareness of the U4362.

Hi James - yep! the aim is to, if not acquire one of each, at least get a record of each of the turbopower and master models. I have a spreadsheet I am working on, a screengrab of which i have posted on the 'Turbopower Madness' thread.

Pop over there and see if you can fill in any of the missing info!!

'Challenge Turbopower' so to speak.

Cheers
Paul

I rather like it. It's what would have been called "Euro Design" over here. I see it has a fragrance dispenser.. does it utilize vacuum tablets or something else?

I've been told by Alan and co that a lot of my uprights are very "Euro" no idea what they mean. :P

Well a lot of American uprights seem to be very industrial, chunky, heavy designs...regardless of how old they are.

They're domestic appliances, not an industrial process. :P

Hey Pete,

They used a circular solid scented block to dispense the fragrance, ISTR three different kinds were available.

They always remind me of lavatory freshner blocks a bit... *ducks*

Hoover Air Fresheners

Circular, soft plastic disc, with a hole on the centre. (These discs reminded me of the replacement discs for the 'Airwick Ball' airfreshener that Granny had in her bathroom, circa late 1970's!).

Initially Hoover had three fragrances:

1. Green disc: 'Orchard Blossom'; smelled of green apples.
2. Blue disc: 'Spring Bouquet'; quite a strong floral fragrance.
3. Brick-red disc: 'Tobacco Clear'; strong smelling chemical smell, to counteract smell of stale tobacco.

A fourth version was later added, replacing the 'Tobacco Clear'. This was a yellow disc, and called 'Summer Meadow'; smelling of summer flowers.
