Hoover & Electrolux Central Vacuums in the UK

I'm pretty sure that way back in perhaps the late 70s/early 80s, both Hoover and Electrolux launched central vacuum systems in the UK; I remember reading a brief article on them in my mum's Good Housekeeping magazine. The pictured unit (probably Hoover) was a lurid orange with a brown pattern on it.

Does anyone remember either of these systems and/or have any further info?

They clearly didn't catch on, because here in the UK central vacuums are pretty much confined to self-build projects.

Aside: I seem to remember perhaps in the mid-80s there was a UK company advertising DuoVac central vacuum systems in the Sunday supplements, but again, I guess not a big winner. I think they used the brand name UniVac, although Univac is a Swedish central vacuum brand now.

I have no idea what it is like in none UK homes, but here a central built-in vacuum cleaner seems only to exchange one set of drawbacks for another. I admit I have never used a central vacuum cleaner, but the thought of having to have all that hose to pull around & then store does make me shiver.

Hi I am not sure about the UK market but do know in Canada in London Ontario our neighbors had the Hoover Central Vacuum and it was and orange red can in the garage and the hose was white and the attachments black wand chrome and the power head was red orange.

I do have the Electrolux central vacuum Central (ELux) Blue and White is the hose and attachments and I have to say I love it. Yes it has a lot of hose but I am not restricted as to where I clean. The outlets are correctly placed around the house and it is easy for me to clean any room from hardwood floors, furniture to carpet with the power head.
