Brush Guard Plate Question for Hoover Experts.....
I notice that this Hoover DAM's metal brush guard plate has no guard "ribs" anywhere along the width of the brush. Did that not cause the vac to suck up too much carpet and cause damage? Most new Hoovers have a series of "guard rails" across the brush window to prevent swallowing whole throw rugs and other large items. Anyone know if this was a problem with this DAM?

I gave a spa treatment to a DAM w/APD, model 1178.
Great machine .... very solid with lots of power.
Agitation is somewhat a challenge compared to the Convertible.
I would think a 4 brush strip agitator would help ... it has strong motor power (amperage/wattage).
Need to play with that part of the machine.
Also, a 30 ft soft power cord would help the machine range and overall flow of vacuuming from room to room.
Oh ... I digress

Thanks guys for all the nice comments. It was a lot of work but it was something I knew could be restored pretty well. I just wish I could find a new bumper for it, but this thing is older than dirt

The DAM was notorious for eating its own cord... but as far as causing damage to the vacuum due to sucking up too much carpet, etc.. I don't think that was an issue.

Thanks for your answer to my question HC....
I kind of thought it would be bad for people who seem to like to run their vacs over the electric cord! I imagine the lack of guard rails also made it dangerous to use a DAM on small throw rugs as the open mouth just might have a tendency to swallow the whole rug, especially with strong suction on an empty bag.
