replaced a belt & gave her a good cleaning.
Took her for a spinDon't know what a 2 stage motor is but she has that hum of the old Hoovers with the beater bar.

Don't like the A bag set up so will probably put her up for sale locally
but she really is a great groomer.

Green model U4307
bag says pre 81.

Good used condiiton rescued from Goodwill for $10
like I need another
but she called to me to save her from obscurity.

Great looking convertible!

That's a great rescue there! I haunt every Goodwill in my area and I am totally disappointed in their selection of vacuum cleaners! I'm glad that one found a good home! Congrats!

Great find

I just moved to Delaware and started exploring all the picking spots,I found a very nice hoover guardsman that is nearly restored. If I still lived in Arizona I would be happy to purchase your machine.

i dont care if i had a thousand hoover convertibles a u4307 kmart convertibles is a retail icon and with hoover model u4305 started hoover convertible high style that carried it through the 1980s absolutely a treasure...

Yeah,it does spound good
strong motor with low growl hum like the 50's sound.
What is the 2 stage motor about

Only thing it need is the screw that hold the handle together was missing so I just put a screw w nut in for now

How can I date it?

Here is the bottom.

Low amps model
some rust but could clean up with some steelwool.

Glad shes goody, may just keep her

the u4307 was a 1980 launch of the hoover exclusive k mart line which world premired the iconic hoover striped bag...also on the u4159 decade 80 circa 1980 and the u4317 of 1982 and its sister u4349 also in 1982

2 speed motor

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe the second speed kicks in when you attach the cleaning tools?

Actually, on front-conversion Convertible and Decade 80 uprights, the higher speed is engaged when the handle is raised to the locked upright position. Merely attaching the hose was not enough, as it was on the older rear-conversion models. How it worked on the front-conversion models was, when the handle was set in the upright position, a small, square projection on the lower right-hand side of the handle bail pressed against a spring-loaded speed selector switch under the hood.

So that's what that thing is for!

Thanks raycarter, I new it had something to with attaching the attachments, nice find camelotshadow!

Squarehandle

Are you referring to the handle bail itself, or to the square projection I described? If you meant the bail itself, its purpose is actually a carrying/stair cleaning handle.

I've got her in the storage room but from my pics & memory I can't find the tool attach area.
If I recall on my 1954 I think had the opening on the bottom side.
I can't see any opening on the top left or right.

I really have no use for tools as the thing with this vac is its vibra groom.
Really spins the beater with great force & fluffs the nap even on my 30 yo carpet.

Just not fond of the inside plastic A bag adapter which seems kind of cheesy.
I prefer the F& G as they seem to not clog as much.

I have the eureka metal top ESP with the F& G bag also with thye beater bar
which is a great vac.

With all the vacs I have to try to keep the number down to the goodies.

Anyway I was glad to put this one back to use.
Has to cut off globs of hair on the center pin & took the beater apart as it was junked with hair & crud.
Cool thing is it just unscrews. Nice brush design.

Oh well, glad so many have enjoyed a peek at her...another green but good ugly machine...

LOL

The projection on the bail

Didn't know why they put that there till now, Thanks. The tools fit on to the bottom front nozzle with a special converter.
