Hoover Convertible......

well this weekend i came home with a variety of new machines.....there was a head count of 20 total (like i really needed them)...but one of my finds was a Hoover Convertible model U4127.....and i was always told that that was the first plastic based Convertible from 1978.....and moms U4119 came after that in 1979......well i have to ask is this true?.....because didn't the convertible model numbers fall in numerical order? and in that case 4119 would come before 4127.....and there's a 4107 and a 4109 metal based.....wouldn't the 4119  fall in as the promo to those models? those machines ( 4127 and the 4109) were the last of the metal based around that time in 1978 or 1979......at least according to the metal Convertible list.....i would love some help with this......

I remember buying

the exact same Convertible as the yellow one brand new in December of 1977 at a Jamesway store just after my family moved into our new apartment in Beaver Falls, so I can say for sure that machine was on the market then.

We moved into our new apartment on Dec 26, 1977. It probably wasn't until Jan, '78 until I saw the sales ad with that Hoover from Jamesway. They had two on sale. The Convertible, same model as the one Jayson pictured, and a BOL Premier Swivel Top straight suction canister. Both were $49.95. I got Dad to buy the Hoover, and spring for the attachment set, which was optional. I forget how much the attachments were. We had that Convertible for a few years until I started selling Kirby, and I traded in my first Sanitronic VII. After that, I never touched the Convertible again. A friend of Dad's at the American Legion needed a vacuum, and we gave her the Convertible. Wish I would have kept it now. :-( The things we do when we're young and dumb.

Nice finds... I got one exactly like the yellow one a few weeks ago at a thrift store for 5 bucks. Oddly enough, yesterday at the same store they had another one but of course this one had 20 bucks on it. I hate it when some of the thrift stores see something sell, then think they can jump the price and get top dollar b/c someone bought the 1st one. But, I would suppose someone else could be pricing them too... At any rate, no need for two so I passed. (Side Note) does anyone have a photo of the last convertable produced???

well I believe the last convertible was in 1992-93 and was called the hoover RS sadly I don't have a picture. It was a maroon machine with a cloth maroon pladish type A bag. No headlight rounded hood.

Jason, they both may have been out at the same time, it was just a matter of which one a store wanted to sell for a promo/budget model Hoover.

I am thinking that Hoover's model #s went in sequential order, too. The model U4127's colors were alpine green and oyster white, and years of manufacture were circa 1978-1983. I would surmise that the Model U4119 was also introduced in 1978 (or late 1977), but I think it had a longer run. I'm thinking its hood/bag color was "Tahitian Gold"--does anyone know for sure? Please post the spec sheet if you have it.

Hoover model U4119's color names are Camel and Oyster White (the same as top-fill model U4107.)

WOW!!!

This is a blast from my past...lol. Funny seeing my old hallway that the picture was taken in..lol. I sadly no longer have the U4127, I just have the U4119, because of its deep sentimental value.

@raycarter: Thank you for the final call on the color. There still has been much personal debate about that. One does not look at that and think Camel...lol...of coarse, it being from the era of Harvest Gold, that is the mind set that you tend to be in. My Mother even called it gold..lol..
