I've always taken a liking to commercial vacuums, and more specifically, those used in the hospitality business. Well, upon browsing the site, I came across a thread talking about old Hoover Private Labels, and the first post on it showed an image of what was described to be a "Holiday Inn Hoover Convertible". Does anybody have any information on it, and its rarity? I doubt I'll be able to get my hands on one anytime soon, but I'd love to!

Woah.....

What are the chances I come across THE Owen Perkins!?!?! (well I mean, this site isn't that big, but still lol).

Also I think my chances of finding a Poltergust G-00 in a hotel are higher than that lol.

These special Hoover Convertibles likely replaced the old Kirby Classic IIIs they used to have back in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The Kirbys may have been well-built, but the people at Holiday Inn did not like having to shake the bag out after every single (yes, single) use of the machine. Add to that having to disconnect the belt from the motor in order to clean the brush roll and fan case was also tedious for them.

Okay, that took a bit to get to that conclusion, but at least we got there.

It honestly kind of surprises me that Kirbys would be used in a hotel, especially an economy one like Holiday Inn. Usually, management there goes for the cheapest machines available, and unless they somehow got their Kirbys used, they would've been quite expensive. Despite them being high-end for the time, they wouldn't be my go-to for hotel use. That also makes me wonder if the housekeeping staff used any of the optional accessories.

I read during the 1980s their Classic IIIs were replaced by rather cheap Hoover uprights whose cords were only 15 feet long! Very sad day then.

Not long after that, the Hoovers were then subsequently replaced by the much better Sanitaire SC886 "Quick Kleen" uprights.

They probably got pitched once something major broke on them. If not, then they used them until they could no longer find replacement parts for them. That said, I'd hope that there's still a handful of them still kicking around somewhere.
