Hoover Convertible with no model # stamp

Careful with the top-fill bags in that smaller outer jacket.  They're considerably bigger than a type C bag, and could very easily allow the outer bag to rip at some point down the road.  You could use a smaller HEPA type Y bag.  I'm also not 100% sure if you can use the newer bearings with the "delrin" washer on the bearing in place of the old metal bearing with felt retainer and triangle clip.  I haven't ever tried it myself.  Good to know if it does work.

I recall a story about the model numbers being stamped -- and the fact that they did get somewhat careless with it at one time.  I don't remember for sure what all the details were.  I think that was one of the last things done on the production line before the cleaner went into the box, though.

Thanks Fred,

I had done it with the taupe C bag on my other Convertible and folded/rolled the bottom of the bag to not inflate too large, and I will try the Y bag. This awesome guy I buy parts from said to throw away the felt washers, so I am crossing my fingers.

And spoiled.......

.......and have to be the center of attention. My two boys are actually Tonkinese ( a cross between Siamese and Burmese ). They are like little dogs that play rough, follow me everywhere and love to be held and lay on me, including horsey rides on my back. The main difference between a Siamese and a Tonkinese is that the Siamese will rip the drapes of the wall when you leave for work, where the Tonkinese will just give the drapes resentful looks all day. They are both great breeds. Tonkinese are an awesome breed.

New Hoover parts came :)

Just opened my Hoover Convertible's new bag ring and top fill tube. Just waiting on the new bag spring and to go through the motor. Can't wait to vacuum with it for the first time.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of the end result. I would like to see how the "Y" bag works. It would definitely improve the filtration on those. It would be nice if they made high filtration "C" bags as I enjoy the old fashioned bag setup.

As soon as I get the Y bag.......

.......I will install it and see how it works. I still want to take the motor out and clean the air path and check everything over. After researching I probably will not do anything to the motor bearings as replacement seems the best route if all is not right. Judging by the overall condition, it should be fine. Have not even turned it on yet. :)

New bag spring.

Received my new bag spring today. Made attempts ordering Hoover part numbers 38335006 and 38336014 to no avail. The Electrolux Eureka Sanitaire springs are similar (48429) and will not put high stress on a vintage vinyl bag. (It amazes me how many companies will list false pictures of parts and also parts that are no longer available that are current listings).

Delay on the Y bag test. (And a caution).

Paid $10 ( E.B. listing )for what was supposed to be a retail package of two Hoover Y carbon bags. This is what I received in the mail. Have to laugh. I also don't personally care for opened packages of napkins, tissue, underwear or vacuum bags :)

Could not wait for this to come !

Wow. Yes. I opened the sealed box with a sharp knife. The gloss and new (vintage) aroma is intoxicating.

Gorgeous!

I have several.  I LOVE that cone-shaped handle....very 60s. They're so new and pristine.  I KNOW the suction isn't fab,  BUT, these were well-made.  Be careful: if you "insert converter to this line",  that tray will scratch.  Sometimes, it scratches a lot.  ENJOY.

The only reference I had for what a 1031 tool set looked lik

.......before I bought my NIB sealed set. I applaud the maker of this vid and give my thanks. AWESOME! The end is cute :)

I notice the box describes the included brush as a floor brush. I always thought that brush was called a furniture brush, although I have seen some packaging that mentioned it could be used for dusting furniture or bare floors. I know the deluxe set came with the actual bare floor brush.
