Directions.
Depending on the machine the switch may be activated different ways. If your Convertible has the rear mount attachment hook up then the speed switch is activated by a lever that extends down from the speed switch into the cavity of the hose hook up. When properly set up, the switch should lye parallel against the wall of the hose inlet while activating the switch at the same time.
On some models with agitator cavity mounted hose hook up, such as Decade 80, the speed switch is activated by the handle. When the handle raises into the upright position the switch would activate via a lever that releases from the speed switch button when the handle is in operating position and then puts tension the lever which activates the high speed when the handle raises.
The speed switch attaches to the vacuum at the rear left motor mount screw above where the power cord enters the hood. . The screw holding the speed switch in place is very thin compared to the other hardware on the vacuum and attaches thew speed switch to a special metal plate above where the power cord lays. Ensure that the speed switch button is on the outside for installation so that the activation lever makes contact.
I believe it is 3 wires connecting into the switch. Each with a protective covering over it but other wise they are basic female wire connectors that slip over the male ends in the switch. The best way to reinstall may just be to disconnect from one switch and reconnect to new at the same time. Or you could make a diagram, label the wires, or take a picture.

I might also recommend that if you're unfamiliar with wiring or have any problems then take it to your local vacuum shop, show them how far you got, and perhaps they can offer quick help for the rest of the way. Perhaps you have a local vac shop that knows you well, as some of us do.
