This 706 was a $5 estate sale find. it was sitting lonely in a corner of the garage with its cord's plug end cut with a crudely written "broken" sign taped to it. i asked how much for it, since it was "broken" i got it for a steal. Of course i had every intention of bringing it back to life. I put a new plug end on it, fired it up, and it sounded like a blender chopping ice cubes.
so off it went, and a full motor service went under way. lone behold i found 2 problems with it. one the moron that serviced at the vac shop last GREASED the upper bearing and didn't put new grease in the lower at all. the other issue was the brushroll needed new grease in it's bearings. all easy fixes.
once the motor bearings were PROPERLY lubed (3 in 1 oil for the upper after scraping the grease out of it, and amsoil syntechtic grease for the lower and brushroll) a new belt, bulb and bag, i fired it up and it purrs just like it should. the only thing that needs to be replaced now is the carbon brushes.
it's truly amazing how an idiot in a vac shop screwed up a very well cared for vacuum. im glad i saved it from the dump, which is where it certainly would've gone after that estate sale. It'll be going to my good vac friend Sam Addison who's a member of the forums here.
