Recently I changed the belt on my Hoover convertible because there was a crack in the old belt. After I installed the new belt I ran it with the new belt...everything went ok at first until the motor started slowing down....I imediately turned the vacuum off to see what was causing it and I found nothing....I put the old belt back on for now.....does anyone know what's wrong?

Does the agitator turn freely without the belt? Maybe it needs freed up a bit. Is this the Convertible with the plastic base and plastic endcaps on the agitator? Could the belt be on wrong?
