Hey, Bikerray

Hoover made 4  special colors.  They are known as the 'condiments":  mustard, mayo, relish, and ketchup.  The ketchup one is a full hood which came out in 1975.

That model you have there, I believe, is called "Canton red". It is not one of the condiments. They are referred to as "full hood models".

I have the specs and that model at home.  I believe I have all 4 condiments too.  I'll have to take a picture of all 4 .

Will

Would you consider the metal based commercial convertible model U4313 from 1990 to be the last of the metal based convertibles?

OK here's the info

There are 2 versions of this cleaner.   One is a "rear conversion" with a narrow white bag with a red topper.  The other is a front conversion  with the wide, white bag, as shown on your machine. The colors are Oyster White and Light red.

This was not the last metal base, but the last Convertible with this style hood.

That looks like a UL patent number my plastic base convertible has the same number on it. That’s is a u4123. I flipped another metal base over also has 263G.

As for the "condiments"...

This phrase refers to the 4 new, full-hooded Convertible uprights of 1975. They were dramatically improved in the following ways. The new high performance motor, new wide top bag, tip toe rug adjustment with pile level eye (essentially, a window in the hood), and a new larger carpet height adjuster lever.

Mayo =model  number U4059   Color: Maple Sugar

Pickles = model number U4057 Color: Lichen Green

Mustard = model number U4063 Color: Gold Tone (light)

Ketchup = model number U4061 Color: Poppy

I hope this helps and clears up any confusion.

I've heard condiment convertibles before. You are right it is in the archives. I'm wondering is this a term Hoover came up with? Is it in the official Hoover literature? Or is it a nickname coined by collectors?
