Hello, I have a Hoover convertible model 719 and was wondering how you convert it from its bottom fill set up to the later top fill, which works better. Thanks!

You can swap the entire bag from a newer Convertible. I mix and match bags all the time. I don't think the top fill setup would fit inside the original bag.
The top fill works much better, but I like using the C bags for fun.

I'm using adapted top-fill bags in my Hoover Junior, which only takes bottom-fill bags, I took some Electrolux E60 bags (they have a Eureka code, but, I forget what it is!!!), cut off the ends, to make them into open-ended bags, and just stuck them on, and they work so much better than regular paper Hoover bags (C or H1, depending on where you're from!!), cos they have a micro-liner in them, so they don't clog up the moment you turn on the vac... 
Changing them isn't fun though, you have to flip the whole vac over to stop any dirt falling out, aswell as keeping the exhaust clear, it's a pain, but that's why Hoover developed the "drain pipe" top-fill setup, which was just as annoying cos it took up 2 thirds of the bag!! My Junior U1104 had one, it was just annoying cos you couldn't fit the bag in properly... :S
Was going to post a picture, but, I can't remember where I put the ones of the U1104 with the filltube shown...

When I had a U1104, the constant problem was that the paper bag, somehow managed to unfurl along the glued end. It wasn't the best machine, as it didn't like picking up grit. Older Juniors did a better job.
The fan pulley also wore down at an alarming rate.

So far I haven't used bags in my Hoover Juniors (1334-style thing, 1346 junker (never really got it working right), and the U1104) long enough to let them come unglued...
The pulleys I have (got a box of Junior parts) are all worn down, makes you wonder how the heck that a simple rubber belt can "erase" the metal to almost nothing, leaving them unable to turn the brushroll.... :S

Thanks everyone! I don't know much about the convertibles, so this helped me very much. I do have a question though. How do you use a hose on this vacuum? I heard the motor kicks into a higher speed when you use a hose.
