So, I just acquired some Hoover Constellations through the generosity of a customer who was cleaning out a family member's house. The oldest (and most interesting to me is a model 88 that runs and is in fairly good shape. I'm thrilled since I have the matching Convertible 67. What I would like to know is what did the original tool caddy look like. It came with a tool rack that's part wire and part plastic which may or may not be the correct one. Is it the same as the model 85? Thanks.

Hello Hershel,

That tool caddy is correct. It is the same design as the "Tilt style" Constellation in Ceylon yellow and Seal Greige. This model, if you don't have the exact color, is FAWN brown, matching both the Convertible , (model 67)
and a floor polisher. Now, Hoover people usually know the correct colors, but, perhaps not. I'm very fortunate to have the polisher from the 'vault'.I also have this Connie as well as a few 67 Convertibles. I hope this helps you, Hershel.

Constellation

One of the owners manuals shows hose storage as--leave connected to suction, tilt tool caddy away from vac, wrap hose around lower half of Constellation, replace tool caddy.Cord would wrap around carry handle.
Didn't the Hoover 88 come in at least 2 colors?

That IS the tool caddy I got in the box of extras! I didn't notice the notches in the exhaust ring. Thank you so much Tom & John. Both of you and your wealth of knowledge is what makes this forum tick. My 88 had its switch replaced at some point to just a silver toggle. Like I say I'm thrilled to add it to my collection. I also got a blue model 86 and three orange 858's.

Hershell

If you need any Genuine Hoover type J bags for your Connies, let me know. I have TONS of packages, and would be willing to send you a couple of vintage packs. I enjoy sharing.

I didn't realize there was a "non-tilted" version of Constellation with the tool rack. I know some models had wire holders on the base for the attachments.

I checked with Tom Anderson

Last night, during our weekly call, he confirmed that the polisher on the right IS the match to the model 65. the 1st Convertible.
I spent half of Sat going through things in a spare bedroom, getting it ready to renovate/restore. UNBELIEVABLE the stuff I found in there!!! There are machines I've long forgotten about! yikes!!
Talk about matching sets!! More pics soon, if you'd like.
