Hoover Concept Question

I've noticed that on some Hoover Concepts there is this weird logo on the cord-reel that looks like II as in two. I saw this on a Concept I, so when it looks like II, it's just weird.

Also did the Windtunnel replace this model?

No, the Concept was replaced by a machine called the PowerMax, which was basically a Concept with tools. That model was replaced by one called the Self Propelled. Then came the WindTunnel.

Actually, before the Windtunnel, I believe it was the Hoover Power Drive. Basically the same thing as a Windtunnel, but it has more of an elite build to it, but much bulkier. One of my favorite Hoovers as a matter of fact

This was actually a carryover from the later Dial-A-Matics. I'm not really sure what you would call it, but they shrunk the size of it on the Concept series. When the U3101 debuted in 1978, it had the logo you mention. My green and white U3105 from 1982 has it, and by about 1983, it was gone altogether. Now if only Hoover hadn't sold its clean air patent to Panasonic, there could've been a Dial-A-Matic II (which probably would have been better than the Concept). Certainly quiter at least....

that "logo" that your refuring to is called a filigree, its really just pretty much a attractive piece of trim work. the very first jamicain blue concept had it and the green and white second also. but mine blue concept has that little decoration but instead of being a II like you say, mine has a little middle section that makes it a H as in HOOVER (i know captain obvious here!)
it is possible that your little middle section did dissipear over time with use a wear. as some did.

If only we could go back in time to the mid 70s and advise Hoover to make better choices. On so many things.

I personally think, and I KNOW people will agree with this, the Hoover Concept and PowerMax lines were some of the best cleaning uprights and most long lasting uprights ever made. I know people who are still using early 80s Concepts and they work like brand new still. They have they're battle scars, but they are mechanically perfect even after 20 some years of hard use. Their bags are ALWAYS filled with the most horrifying sand and grit imaginable. So to reiterate myself, the Hoover Concept is one of the best uprights ever made.

My Concept will take down anything I have seen on my carpets,wow does it beat, I think the weight of it helps it dig in, also feels shampooed when I finish, not with any others.

I agree that the Concept line is probably the best performing, and very long lasting Hoover built. I love my Concept Power Drive, it really does a great job with the deep plush rugs.

As for durability they really stand the test of time, our church purchased a BOL Concept One in 1984 and with the exception of a new cord last year and routine tune ups it has never needed repair, not too bad for a residential vacuum still going strong in a commercial setting after 26 years of use,

I have a concept one machine that I bought for $3 at a yard sale 2 yrs ago, I never use it much but when I did I have to say that it was a really good deep cleaner. I was so surprised at the amount of dirt it got even with the brush strips worn to bits.
too bad that hoover is no longer in business.

Concept 1 vs. Dial-A-Matic

I know there are people out there who are passionate about the Concept 1 & 2, but IMHO more Concept 1's have survived for the simple fact that they are newer than the DAM, and probably more parts are still available. I'd never fault its rug cleaning ability, but truth be told in terms of tool suction, ease of conversion, noise level and filtration the Dial-A-Matic gets the blue ribbon. Hoover actually advertised that the Dial-A-Matic 1100 could suck up bobby pins with no ill effects. Idk, but somehow the plastic base of the Concept line just made it seem alot more chintzy. When initally released, it was definitely a case of three steps forward, two steps back for Hoover. Just my two cents....

I too think the DAM was deserted too soon. Too bad the handle/body joint was too weak and the wheels are too small. The DAM will sink right into a loose plush carpet. And forget tilting and rolling a DAM on soft/loose carpet.

My only gripe about the Concept series (I dont use the dusting tools) is that the brushroll housing is too fragile, esp where it is riveted to the metal wings that allow the pivot. IMO plastic is not the problem, the engineering is.
