Hoover Celebrity Quiet series!

Today I bought a Hoover Celebrity Quiet series for only $12.50!!! (it is not any bit quiet) not incredibly loud but not quiet either! it is in awesome condition and has all of the attachments (including the power nozzle and 2 sets of wands) it is a TOL model with 2 speeds, and it is two-tone green with a chrome top. I was amazed with the amount of suction it has even on low! (the only canister vacuum I have used that cleans as well as an upright! ) It has 2 minor problems though... 1. the cord rewinder only winds about a foot and then stops. 2. the motor has a sort of growl as it winds down (bearings?) sorry but I dont have any pics yet!

Yes, the "Quiet Series" is anything but quiet, but it's a very powerful and beautiful machine.

One thing I don't like at all is the too-short hose. So I did a bit of "vivesection" on mine. See link ... not for the Faint of Heart Hoover Purist!

ok, I have another question. are the bags still available? what about the pre- motor filter(I picked most of the remains of it out of the bag chamber, And the rest of it blew out of the exhaust vents. ok another question... what years was this vacuum made? I dont have the model or serial number right now (the vacuum is actually in my car, I clean our church and I took it there to use and forgot to take it out of my car when I got home)

Bags are widely available, Type "H" to be exact. usually all and most vacuum / small town hardware stores sell these. if you cannot find them where you are located, Ebay is my favorite, cheap yet reliable

Well....on some models I have to agree with you Morgan. Once Eureka went to the front height adjuster, I definitely think they were better cleaners, it just makes better sense to adjust the front instead of the back. As far as tools go, I don't think any of the vintage uprights, other than the Dial-A-Matic were very good. The Hoovers and Eurekas were both good in their time and distinctively different in design, I like both for different reasons I guess. I think a lot of it is the color palette of the Hoovers that make them so attractive to me. Then there's the difference between Kirbys and Royals, but that should be another thread, eh?

That is definitely my favorite Hoover canister. I'll have to check the vacuum stall in our flea market to see if I can find that tool.

Charles, I am interested to know a little about the Hoover carpet/floor nozzle shown in your link as i had not seen that before - a nice update of the classic (well classic to me!) version. We did not have that Celebrity here just the Air-Ride and the one similar to Charles' but with the suction control panel on the front (3001?) - I always though this was an electrical control until I finally got one a few months ago to find it was a mechanical valve control - which was a surprise.

Filters

You might be lucky to find motor filters. However, you can make one from this cut-to-fit material. I've done that before. If yours is just the round disk that just sits on top of the motor, that will be quite easy. But my Celebrity requires a wrap around filter. I just used a shop vac filter and cut it to fit the housing. I've even toyed with cutting up one of those 3M HEPA bags and putting that over the motor, because the filtration on those models is TERRIBLE. But they are very powerful vacuum cleaners. The Qudraflex power nozzle works really well.

I had one briefly...

but was not impressed! The suction was great, but I found that the majority of fine dust simply blasted through the side of the bag opposite the intake hole, rather than collecting at the ends with the larger debris. I had come across some old bags that had an extra piece of craft paper applied in this area to combat this problem, but none of the new bags that I had found included this feature(likely removed due to cost cutting years ago).

What really led me to dispose of this machine was the fact that the previous owner hadn't bothered to find the proper bags, and thought that they could simply cut one of the ends off the full bag, dump it out, and close it up with masking tape. Naturally, the bag burst, sending its contens straight into the fan chamber via that inadequate (in my opinion) foam secondary filter. Despite fully dismantling and washing the machine as well as the hose and tools, the entire room soon wreaked of hot dog feces after running the machine for a few minutes. I gave up. If there is a hell, I hope that there is a special place in it for those who suck up pet feces with high end vintage vacuums.
