Got this for 6 bucks at GW yesterday. Looked too cool not to get. And at cheap prices, I like to get things to see how they were made. I also like to compare other vacs to Kirby of the same period, to see the levels of quality and engineering.
Given the 'made in USA' text, this machine must be from the early 80s or before.
Anyone care to share some knowledge on this unit?

It could use a good cleanup for sure. The hose is in good shape and the wiring is intact. The cord does not want to reel in and the jacket of the cord has separated at the plug. Not a safety issue unless the cord is pulled and not the plug.
The plastic has a break and a crack.
The bag was full and weighed about 5 lbs. Smelled musty but not disgusting. It had broke but it was used anyway.
Motor works well but bearings might sound a tad dry at final spindown. Unless this is normal - I am not familiar with Hoovers.
I removed the bag and cleaned it up a little. Would make a good cleanup project for someone, or install a bag and use it with the hose and some orphaned attachments.

If any local members wants this, just come pick it up. Otherwise I will take it to my friend's thrifts store next week.
As cool as it is, I just do not have the room to keep it. I do like the chrome and the teal/blue colors. My LF would like it for sure if she saw it.

Unfortunately there were no other parts for it, I looked around the store twice.
There was a dirty Kirby G4 with some tools but at 40 bucks, it stayed.

BTW, why do my pics go upside down sometimes?

Unit was dropped off at the Plaid Tag thrift store (Ave K & Park in Plano 75074) this afternoon, if anyone local wants it. They will keep it 'till it sells!

Good Score, the celebrity is a rare beast in Australia, definitely never seen a chrome top nice green before, my celebrity is model s3003, plastic tools, never seen one in a op shop, they would bin it immediately sadly, getting hard to find tools, there’s a gentleman in Sydney who was cleaning out a relatives house of Hoover vacuum cleaners, he might still have parts, from memory he was only working on the collection once a month, I will ask him if he still has parts available, never know.
