im curious when the Hoover 618s were produced, and especially if there is any data base on serial numbers, I have a 618-1 , serial # 091870200866 that i have had since the early 1980s but i dont know when it was produced

This 918-01 was built in February 1977 according to the serial number, and it replaced the first 918 produced from 1972-76.

you cannot accurately date a hoover product prior to 1987 from its serial number without internal corporate literature. the best you can do is the date range from when it was produced and guess a year based on serial number (low, high etc)

Both this and the U7037 were initially sourced from Hoover's Perivale, England plant, hence the serial number format.
