On my Hoover Commercial 918 I have had a problem with belts burning in to after about two minutes of operation. I have checked the bearings in the agitator and the brush roll appears to roll freely and there is no heat at the bearing ends. There is a wire loop bracket that closes over the nozzle in the middle, something like the flat lever that closes over the belt on a model 63. It is curved and protudes beyond the nozzle and has a tendency to pull at the knapp of the carpet when pulling the machine rearward. This is my only exposure to a Hoover Commercial and I don't know if this is how they are all made...with the wire bail. What I am wondering is, could this bail be the culprit? Could it be rubbing against the round belt and slicing it in two? I would appreciate any of your expert opinion as I know that there are a lot of Hoover experts out there.
