Had this for years .Anyone reading my last thread [near death kirby ] will have seen this machine and know its history .I have had it about 15 years .It runs but could do with some attention so today I stripped it down .The bottom bearing is shot and as you can see the commutator is really worn [imagine how many hours of running it must have had ] the bearing was held in place with 4 small bolts instead of the usual rivets .I will give everything a good clean and fit a new bearing .I think i have an old stock [new ]commutator somewhere

thats it all done

back wheels on and the rubber bumper .Motor refitted this time with some sealant [Whoever took it out last time didn't bother no wonder there was hardly any suction and lots of dirt in the motor compartment . Bag back on [although it could do with a new one and we all know that's not going to happen don't we .Will probably end up making one . its also had a length of new rubber flex just to complete the job . That's it guys there's another Kirby waiting its turn and its owner wants it back before Xmas so I had better get a move on .Just Hoovered the attic carpet and I have to say its purring like a kitten while at he same time lifting the carpet up just as it should

Hi...

Hi. You've done a great job. Getting all of the old paint off must of took you a long time. Well done!:o)

When it comes to Hoovers my knowledge is limited as I'm a Kirby guy.
However when it comes to knowing the date from the serial number the 912 part refers to the model of the unit and the next part 4 02 is the year of that decade and then the month. But You need to know the decade it came from. So it's either a 60s model or 70s. So it's either February 64 or February 74. I'm going to guess 74 lol. But I might be wrong. I'm sure one of the Hoover guys will inform you correctly.

Hope that's of some limited help lol.

Cheers James:o)

regarding its age

I would hazard a guess at 1974 as apposed to 64 .Over here in the uk our mains cable colours changed in the early 70s from red [live] black [neutral] green [earth .To brown [live] blue neutral and yellow and green stripes for earth
