Hoover 725 Restoration Advice

Hello everybody, I am seeking information and advice on how to restore a Hoover model 725. I just want to find the best techniques and what would be best for the vacuum. I am not considering washing the bag, but rather cleaning it with compressed air, has anyone else tried this? Also, what should I use to clean and restore the metal? I will post some pictures of it here soon

There's a lot of restoration information on vacuumland over the years on Hoover coffee can vacuums. They have many differences but the cleanup process is the same. i guess it comes down to cleaning up to be functional and reliable, or make it a museum piece, or.... something in between. I have 7 coffee can Hoovers. The oldest, a 105, is going through an extended rehab. Tearing one of those down to basic parts is easy but time consuming. The 105 was painted instead of polished- so that's way more involved to restore.

Some choices are tough. Do you keep the original bag? It probably doesn't trap a whole lot of dust anymore. Do you move on to an aftermarket bag that will hold the dust but not look original? I have both. I keep original for display and the aftermarket to actually use.
