Hello!

This might sound stupid but I thought I'd share how I clean or "restore" brushrolls. I do what anyone else does. Cut the hair off, lube the bearings, wipe it down, but I recently discovered a cool trick. When too much hair or thread gets wrapped around the brush it bends the bristles. Which causes the roller to be less effective (this will also help if there's a ton of gunk stuck in the bristles) I figured out that you can use a wire brush to clean and straighten out the bristles. It's worked quite well for me. Has anyone else used or heard of this trick?

Yes I have heard of this but never did it on brushrolls. I have a nylon brush for my dogs and the hairs wouldnt come out. I kept trying every way I could think of and eventually went to trying to use another brush to brush them clean and I don't know how but I guess it was just what was laying around that I tried, I eventually grabbed a wire brush and was shocked that it worked really well!

Also those little tools that come with the roomba work good at cutting brushroll hairs.

When I was working at a vacuum store, that's what I also did. An air compressor can also work as well. But for fully sanitizing one (depending on the brushroll), I'd use a pressure washer as that's what fully cleans the bristles. Dishwashers can work but not as good as the pressure washer.
