Hoover 29 Cloth Bag Repair

When Charlie sent the 29 back he reminded me that there was some tearing of the bag at the top under the bag clamp. Since this bag is otherwise in excellent condition and I do want to use this machine, these tears need to be repaired as to not worsen.

Since I am a Quilter

I know my way around a sewing machine. This repair presented some challenges since the tears are right along the top of the bag really close to the edge with a elevated edge that goes under the bag clamp. The good news is that the repair will be under the clamp so won't be seen. The object is to secure the tear so that it doesn't get any worse. Found the closest thread color and set up the Bernina with a 5MM wide zig zag and a very short stitch length. This is what is know among sewers as a satin stitch. Needed to go over the tear a few times to catch all the edges so it ended up not so pretty but will outlast the rest of the bag.

The finished product is a bit rough, but the bag is now secure.

And now back in service. I'll have to find some maroon paint to match to touch up the bag clamp.

For vac bags...

I suggest using iron on patches... Ive had stitches simply rip from the immense power of that blower.
