I can't believe I have another vacuum. It looks like its in great shape. Fan is near perfect. Here are some pictures. original bag? cord? runs smooth and no odd noises and no growling. Needs a belt desperately. Which one fits? brushes are worn. Is this a desirable vac? I cleaned the bag but have not touched anything else... yet

Very nice find there! Actually quite rare. I've always wanted a model 26 and a model 25. two of the most elegant machines of the era.

Little scratched up, but with some elbow grease I bet most of those scuffs will come out

That is a genuine Hoover replacement bag. The original one would be brown. That cleaner was used a lot, but not abused, it seems. Some Bon Ami on those marks and you'll have a prized machine there. Good luck.

Belt, Brushes

A stretched out convertible belt will work nicely or a Eureka F and G. I actually have replacement brush strips if you're interested in a pair or you could get them rebristled.

I'd say the 26 is a machine that most collectors would call desirable, not nearly as common as a 28, or a 61.

The 26....

was part of the last set of models produced by Hoover before the WWII broke out. They were introduced in 1939, and ran until '40 when war really got going. When the war started Hoover ceased production of products to make war supplies for the effort. Then when production resumed, the introduced new models. The top of the line in this set was the illusive Model 60 (which is a rarest of them all), the 26 was the midrange option, and the budget was the Model 305. I have a all original 60 and a restored 26.

I am interested by the fact that the 26 had a foot operated switch but the 262 uk version had the switch in handle.
This is unlike other models like the 62/ 629 convertable/652 were the Usa versions had the switch in the handle and the Uk version had the switch on the base.

I am in Crested Butte. This vac was in front of an old mining home turned vacation family retreat. I knocked on the door but no-one answered. I may gift this machine to someone that would like to restore it. I have way to many vacs and no time

Would love another 305 model. I had an all original one. Don't know what I did with it. Back a few years ago when I had 3 model 28s. I loved the hood on the 305 the most out of that style.

@tmg2200how much would that model 26 cost to ship to zip code 48867 my model 26 which is sentimental needs parts and this would be a great restoration project for me with the addition of the sentimental units parts and I will put it to good use.

@spiritof76 I might have a hoover 61 but the handle I use on mine release and all is off a 60 contrary to that what paint color do I ask for to get the 60s original shade
