Hi Guys Just finished my cosmetic work on my 652,which has the early early bag on it from the first few months of production.
Well now is the problem i cant do electrics so I need to get a new motor as the old was was of no use to man nor beast.
I did not take the rubber furniture guard of for fear of breaking it,but i came up with a plan.
I went to a local hardware store and purchased one meter of round two core electric cable, and gently pushed it in between the furniture guard and the body all the way round.
Once that was inserted it pushed the pink rubber way out from the body top edge.I masked up the pink rubber and then began the boring taske of sanding the body down to bare metal.
Once eventually smooth i use finer sandpaper to get a smooth surface. Then i used car primer white for the base.
For the paint i used many coats of ford diamond white which is a very brilliant white.leaving time before each coat, i suspect i have at least ten coats of paint on this.
once that had dried I used car lacquer for the top coat to give it a mirror finish and to give an extra hard surface.
I left this for a week in a warm room, then removed the masking tape and removed the cable, soon as i did the pink gaurd went straight back into place and a tight fit.
I chose not to use paint stripper for the fear it might damage the rubber parts on the machine body.
My next issue is a brand new roller brush and bearings and the dreaded task of finding a decent motor.
I am also on the prowl for a better condition lamp lens as this has yellowed with age
As for the handle bail i have left original so far but may consider getting a paint match done.(i am not sure with that)what do you think guys?should i or should i not.
I do know though this bloody thing is costing me lots of money lol. Mind you I only paid ten pounds to start with.
As for the bag i have one tiny little nick of 3 mm but i am going to use a clear repair patch from the inside to stop that from ever getting bigger but it really is so small a nick.
Guys what shall i do about my handle bail, i just don't know how im going to match it.
ps if anyone has a good motor for a 652 please let me know if you want to sell one so i can just screw it in i would be most grateful i can not do electric what so ever except put a plug on
