HooVax QuickLite, salvaged...

I think I shall tackle this today, get it cleaned up and stuck back together, before I forget how it goes back together!!! :P

Then onto the Electrolux z500's plastics.... :)

Well, it's all washed up, smells a lot better (though still has a slight doggy smell to it, I shall fix that with Kirby Odorific masking the smell), the outside of it is a bit greasy, that gungy yukky stuff that forms around a cooker when you're a heavy food fryer, so that'll need to be cleaned off with some degreasing stuff (probably some decent kitchen cleaner), but otherwise, it's all looking good, just need to let it dry now... :)

Unfortunately though, the filter fell apart, I guess it was past it's best, thought looking at it, I think if I dug the glue out of the bit that let go, I could probably reassemble it with some silicone sealant, though that would probably be a waste of time really, cos the thing still has a bit of a smell about it, and looking on ebay, the filter kits aren't too bad, about the cost of a cheap pack of bags, so no worse than buying bags for a proper vac... :)

Still, I'm having fun, I like projects.... :D

Thanks, I meant to post the model number earlier but completely forgot about it, still, it helps in locating the correct filter(s) for it... :)

I've seen a few different QuickLite models, though this one I would guess is easier to put in the post cos it folds down, reducing the height... :P

I've identified another problem, one of the brushroll bearings is pretty seriously rusted up, and it's not recent rust either, it looks like it's been rusting away for some time, but we'll see, might have something somewhere to replace it... :)

It's back together, minus the hose which is still wet inside (I hate stretch-hoses!!), and goodness me is this thing a noisy bugger!!! I'm used to my Kirbys, Sanitaire, Juniors, Victor and the miele, but this thing is louder than standing next to a police car with it's sirens blaring.... :S

I'm definitely not keeping this one, horrible thing!!!

Nah, modern plasticrap vacs here in the UK are horrifically noisy whatever brand you go for, I think it was just thrown out cos it suffered from SOS (or, Stupid Owner Syndrome) cos of the lump of dirt/fur/whatever that was caught in the nozzle, aswell as the filter that was just a cake of dirt, both easy fixes even for a complete idiot (but then again, the totalled up IQ of the rest of this street probably won't reach 100), but still, their loss is my project... :)

Managed to re-assemble the filter though, but I'm not sire if it's secure enough being held in with permanently flexible silicone, cos twisting it off made it move slightly, so, I don't know, not too keen on spending more money on it (£3.99 for belts, one of which went to the Lux Z500), especially as I haven't got any to spare at the moment, but we'll see, might have access to some different sealant (that hardens when it dries) next week... :)

The hose is a PITA though, even after a few days of drying somewhere warm, it was still wet inside, so the bin ended up wet too, and with dirt from me trying the thing out (and blowing out my eardrums!!!), so that's been sat on a radiator overnight to try and get the thing dried out properly...

Got a sound meter downloaded onto my phone, might do a comparison of this and three other vacs of mine (Junior, Sanitaire & Kirby I think), just to see how loud they are in comparison to the HooVax... :P

Its too the point I leave "plasticrap" vacuums in the dumpster or trashpile where it lies-don't want to be involved in them-now if it were a Kirby,Royal,'Lux or some other expensive vac in the rubbish pile-will take the machine and give it a shot in fixing it up.The ones I have encountered something was BROKEN on them-or missing.Like a busted housing or such.or missing attachments-Where did they go?

I usually see plasticrap vacs as something to do, cos I have a sleep disorder, I can end up being awake during the night, and being awake during the night can be quite boring, so something to do, even if it's cleaning up a plastivac, it keeps me busy.... :)

Still, it's a POS... :P
