Well, I just trash-picked another vacuum cleaner, it's a Vax QuickLite, it's black and has pink parts, and it's bagless and stinks of dog!!! :S

I am pretty sure of it's fault cos it has a serious nozzle clog, and the filter in the bin is packed with dirt and fur, and it seems to have been left out in the rain so the motor is flooded, this could be an interesting challenge for sure... :P

I wish you the best of luck in restoring the machine. But would it be worthwhile economically? I know sometimes those filters cost almost as much as the machine itself, which is why most people just let the filters clog and keep using the vacuum until the motor burns out. If the customer is too cheap to buy bags, guaranteed they're not gonna buy a new filter.

Definitely agreed on that one! Sometimes a machine doesn't hold any collectable value when they are so new and completely trashed. If I'm not mistaken, that one is also missing the height adjust knob. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder- it will be a major pain to clean up regardless.
 
In all honesty, I don't do restoration for the value, I just do it cos I enjoy it, even if I managed to not sell it, I would rather see it running in someones home and not being thrown out, people still want a cheap vac to replace another cheap vac, that is why freecyce exists... :)

Most of the parts are there, some I had removed before taking pictures, like the height adjuster, that is sat in the tray next to the vac with the belt & brushroll in the first pic, so aside from the tools and power cable, it's all there... :)

I stripped it back to the motor, which had a sodden sponge "filter" around it, the surprisingly simple wiring is intact and servicable and aside from looking wet, I think it will fight to live again, even if it is a cheap-ass plastivac, I've seen vac motors survive worse fates (look up PhotonicInduction on youtube to see what I mean!!!)... :)

Just need to find it a cable... :)
 
Motor looks okay, bit of rust on the armature, nothing on the commutator, I'd say it's perfectly serviceable... :)

Just not braved cleaning the stinky plastics up yet... :S
 
I've found as long as they haven't been submerged in a flood they're usually fine.

I normally brush out the worst of it outside and then soak whatever I can in some sudsy water in the stationary tub. It should clean up fine, although the filter is toast (you'd never get the odor out of it anyways).

I like the color scheme. : ) Scrappers got to the cord before you found it though I see, same issue around here.
 
A lot of people here cut the cable off when they throw vacuums (or any other appliances) out, either to stop people using them cos they're "broken", or if they're like me they save the cable to use on something else... :)

It is a pain though, having to find a replacement to match isn't fun, especially as the price of copper makes it expensive to buy cables now, so I tend to save what I've got when I can... :)

Thinking about it though, the cable I saved from a Hoover PurePower a few years ago, that cable is rated for 6 Amps at 240 Volts, but the motor in that thing was 1800w (current ones are 2100w (8.75A)!!!), and 1800 Watts is 7.5 Amps, it's no wonder the things like to scorch, burn and short out.... :S
 
Well, I found a cable that'll work on it, and I have it wired up to the motor which has thoroughly dried out, and it's working fine, bit on the loud side, but that's probably cos it's a stupidly high-RPM plastivac motor, made by "TEK Electrical (su zhou) Co., Ltd." of China.... :P

It's a 6 Amp cable, and the vac is rated as 1400w, so, it's just within tolerances (and as it's a bagless-with-cartridge-filter vac, it probably won't run that high), and it is long enough to do vacuuming in an average british living room, so should do... :)

Just needs the plastics sorting out now, get 'em clean and get 'em deodorised, just have to wait for the moment cos we has company here... :S

Oh, and the brushroll needs sorting out, it's a bit stiff, so may need it's bearings sorting, assuming it even has proper bearings....

Not much of one really, just got the motor running outside of the vac after it was half-submerged in rainwater... :)
