Relieving afternoon tedium at work
I had a little browse through ebay ....
I last saw this particular cleaner in around 1971, owned by an uncle and aunt. I have never seen this model before or since and after nearly 9 years of collecting I finally found one.

The cleaner is manufactured by Electrolux and based on their models 65/80 - it is known as a model 146a - and has been dated to around 1966, although I suspect this one is somewhat later.
This may be the first occurance of this style of filter, the 65 using the "screw on" type, the 80 (on which mainstream model this was first seen) did not appear until 1967

Complete ensemble .
These tools were first seen in the UK on the Lux 62 and, although this style was used in other countries - particularly Australia - I don't believe they appeared on any other mainstream UK Lux - interesting too that the dusting/upholstery nozzle is colour matched to the cleaner. The cleaner my uncle and aunt had did not have the combination tool but separate. Although the instructions show no suction control on the hose there is an addendum - this cleaner had the suction control with a clip on the back for thecombination tool - an arrangement that I have always liked

The only thing that was not original
was the hose - I know from experience that the later lux braided hoses where prone to wear where the hose entered the handle.
It even had the original box and in quite good condition as well, it was bought by the sellers grandmother. The seller was friendly, helpful and rather cute too

Here is a later version ...
photo taken at Chestermike's last year, along with the equivalent Electrolux models, although the one I have just got was the one I really wanted and I prefer the handle arrangement. There were only these two variants as far as I know

The instructions state the cleaner was manufactured for Electromode Limited - we suspect that they may have been sold door to door (and must have been one of the last models to have been so) as there is no record of them being sold in shops.

Very nice Alistair, guess you'll have to choose another holy grail now! I reckon the Trident style carry handle looks rather neater than the Electrolux version. Does the logo appear on the other body side or just the handle?
I could hsve sworn that Trident cleaners were sold through Comet or Currys, the name rings a bell from full page adverts they used to run, although my memory might just be playing tricks!

Congratulations on your new aquisition Alistair! I can see that this one will have a special place in your heart, having memories of a similar model belonging to your aunt many years ago.
Though I still think of 1960's stuff as being quite common, having grown up in the '70s, this particular model must be considerably rarer than its contemporaries, such as the model 65.

Looks in great nik and nice that it still had the original box too. Obviously a very well cared for and appreciated machine.

Well done Alistair, excellent find, looks in great condition, made me laugh with the box!!! what is it with those boxes...all my family kept the vac in the box, carefully placing back after every use....mind you the Ewbank was used for everyday cleaning and the "Electric vac" only used a couple of times a week!!
Heres the yellow peril Trident Vac...your blue one is the model "Aunty Joan" mums friend had, but I distinctly remember her showing mum when it was new and the wonder of the Paper Bag and saying that she had gotten it from the Trident Electrical Shop, cos one had opened in the shopping precinct and I walked around to see if I could see it!!!
