Here is my Legacy

Just bought his one this afternoon.

It is in very good condition, has lot of power.

Informations in the cover say it's a 1521 model.

I like the color scheme.

That is pretty. I like the color scheme as well. For my money, a good Electrolux metal tank is hard to beat.

I think this one is all plastic, but it feels very solid.

In case you didn't know, the Legacy was one of 8 model 1521s that were manufactured in succession with various updates and/or changes. Other model names included: Diamond Jubilee, Marquise, Grand Marquise, Ultralux, Ultralux LX, Ultralux Classic, & Ultralux Commemorative Edition (top sales award).

The Legacy and Grand Marquise are easy to get mixed up, because at first glance they appear identical; although they're not.


Here are the differences that I and other collectors have noted:

Grand Marquise - manufactured 1988-89, 10 amps (w/power nozzle); factory paired with power nozzle model PN6A; smooth trim on bag door and cord winder

Legacy - manufactured 1989-90; 11 amp "High Performance" motor (w/power nozzle); factory paired power nozzle model 1622 (new hood design); textured trim on bag door and cord winder


As far as I know the tools and hose (white with blue chevron tracers) were the same. Incidentally, both still came with the short 4" crevice nozzle, which was stored on the handle (see clip pointed to the front), and of course the small combo tool fit on the back of the handle.

Electrolux called the lighter color "light sand gray" (used on all the 1521s, the 2100s, 1623s & CB2000s, uprights, & Floor Pro's from 1984 to circa 1995.

I call the darker color "navy" along with some others but don't know what Electrolux named it.

Forgot to mention that "navy" was used beginning with the Grand Marquise and ending also around 1995 when it was succeeded by the gray line.

In case you're interested ... the Sidekick model 1562 would have been an option at the time the Legacy was manufactured, and the model 1522 Floor Pro was the contemporaneous triple brush cleaner.

Nice, I have the same machine, but mine is missing the floor brush and straight suction wands. It does have the Sidekick to it.

The nice old lady I bought this Legacy from had the Sidekick (model 1562), pictured here with all the tools I got with it.

Also on the picture is a PN 1692 I previously bought that could help to make a great combo.

Thanks for posting the "nice old lady's" photo of her advertising photo. That's the best kind of person from whom to buy as generally they take good care of their belongings and routinely have them checked and serviced.

It's great that you have the matching Sidekick 1562, and the power nozzle 1692. All original is nice, but so is an upgrade such as a matching-colored pn with a headlight.

I have a 1692 with my Ultralux LX 1521 and am pleased with its performance.

Side note: Only the later Diamond Jubilees, Marquises, Grand Marquises, and Legacys had the small crevice tool clip (in addition to the small combo tool clip), because they were supplied with the shorter crevice nozzle. The early- to mid-Diamond J's, Ultraluxes, Ultralux LX's, Ultralux Classics, and Ultrlux CE's had the classic longer crevice tools (aka narrow space cleaners), so the crevice clip was removed from their handle design. Most don't seem to know about it. In fact, the lady's photo is the only personal one I've ever seen that shows it being used.

P.S. I just noticed that your Sidekick is the first iteration with the reset button instead of the familiar on/off rocker switch. The earliest ones were not marked with the model number 1562, but later ones were. I'm pretty sure that it was designed and made by another company because of that and because of the wording "by Electrolux" instead of the familiar U.S. company logo or the Canadian one. Anyway, other outsourced products were marked that way.

Paul, the inscription in the door bag says it is equipped with a 10 amps motor, not a 11 amps as you said.

Interesting, Francois. I'm not sure if that means your bag door was replaced, that it was made during the transition between the Grand Marquise and Legacy, or if all the Legacys had the combined 10 amp rating. Maybe the HP motors didn't get introduced until 1990 when the Ultralux 1521 came out?

Thanks for the correction. I looked into it and learned that the HP motors weren't used by Electrolux Corp. till 1990; so yours is the same as all Legacy 1521s.

A former employee of Aerus (Electrolux)stated that back in the day the company frequently used connotative terms or abbreviations in/for their model names such as 'E' for 'economical', 'G' for 'gentle', 'L' for 'Limited', and 'Ultra' for the HP (high performance) motor (so the Ultralux 1521 was the first of the series to be equipped with the HP motor). The HP motor was also suggested in other model name changes such as 'Regency Series 1500' 2100 and Ambassador Plus 1623 (although the machine label was not changed).
