You don't see every day! Some of you know I work for rainbow, within the last few months I have been working in the service department. While looking about the mountains of parts and rainbow housings etc I spotted a hose that wasn't a rainbow hose. The hose was attached to a model 30 lux one of my favorite machines and this my friends has ended a search for a part that is almost extinct!

Behold the C bag conversion piece! The only other 2 I know of belong to our very own Charles Richard Lester and Alex Taber

Charles

after it sitting in a basement for YEARS I am surprised at how smooth the motor runs, even the cord reel is as smooth as glass which is quite a surprise in its own. there was a little bit of rust on the basket possibly from moisture but I cleaned it on the wire wheel and gave it a quick coat of the metallic rustoleum. the fiberglass tool caddy that was on this machine was something I haven't seen before either, the only ones I ever recall seeing were metal.

I saw a XXX at our local flea market a year or 2 ago with one of those on it for $20 or so. Stupidly, I passed thinking it was just an incorrect part, later to find out what it was. I still regret that!

Many years ago I saw an XXX with the disposable bag chamber in a thrift ship. The cover looked odd, kludgy and uncharacteristically plain for anything from Electrolux, especially with the gloriously beautiful Model XXX. I thought it was either the product of a doting handyman hubby or maybe a vac shop product. Either way, I wasn't interested in it at the time -- especially since those zany thrift shop ladies wanted $30 bucks for it ... in the early 1980s!!

the model 30 truly is a wonderful machine! I have 4 versions of it and looking for the 5th which I once had and it was in really rough shape. now on to the bag subject real quick, someone once told me or maybe I read it here that the paper bag restricted airflow on the machine. upon starting with a fresh bag the airflow seems stronger than using a cloth bag. I could be wrong though but that is how it feels. as of right now the machine unserviced pulls a 50 on the waterlift meter once it is serviced I will re try the meter to see if it is any different.

Funny how things happen...

I was stocking my booth at the antique shop I sell at last night. I went upstairs to get my check from the front counter, as I was waiting I spotted something that caught my eye. The very same Electrolux XXX that I saw at the flea market way back when! The price had increased to $175, which is crazy for a XXX, otherwise I would have just bought the whole machine right then. I left a note for the dealer that I had a correct front cover and cloth bag for his Electrolux and I'd be interested in trading. Since it does look a bit "off" I think he'd do better selling it at retail with a stock part. Who other than a vacuum collector would know or care what that bag adapter was anyway? I have the cover and bag in my truck so I can run over there as soon as he calls. Wish me luck!

There are more than just two vacuum collectors who have that machine. The Vacuum Cleaner Museum's example is a 1955 model XXX, the companion to the gorgeous model LXI (61). They ran for a short period (April until October) before being replaced by the E and Automatic E. The paper bags came from the factory, no cloth bag, when this was purchased in July, 1955.

Note the matching blue cover and blue underbelly of the model LXI was used on the last XXX models. Also, the plastic attachments, which would be fully used on the E and Automatic E.

Tom, I have the same late-model XXX as yours, except that mine came with the standard metal attachments and an aftermarket "go-cart." (I used to believe these carts came from bojack vac shops until I got one of those XXX/LX upright maroon attachment stands and saw that the steel tubing is made of the exact same material -- and joined in exactly the same way -- as the tubing on the cart.) Mine also came with both the standard front cover, in hammertone blue, as well as the bag adapter. Here are some photos, including some old ones of me using it from 2001.

Tom: as stated the two that I "knew" of was Alex Taber and Charles Richard Lester, now I do know there are more of them and they are somewhat uncommon to come across, the lux that you have pictured is in wonderful condition and I have the same machine with a different leatherette on it but the original metal tools, and ensemble. Charles I remember as a kid checking out your 137 website and admiring your versions of the model 30. Remembering that I saw the lux with converter kit on your site finding this machine and adding it to my collection brought back the memories of the times where I would sit reading through your museum site. Brandon, I hope you wind up with that piece as it is nearly MINT from seeing the cover.

<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">electroluxxxx <span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;">that's good to hear, and really nice of you to say. That's exactly why I started my site -- for collectors' enjoyment. Including mine, of course!
