Greetings all, based on suggestions I received here, last night I purchased a very gently used Aerus Lux Classic vac.  It comes with plastic wands.  The business end of the hose is male and metal, just like the hoses for my all-metal 'lux vacs.  Can I sub metal wands for the plastic ones?  I never liked the plastic wands.  From looking at the images, the metal wands will work fine but I wanted to inquire here before contacting an Aerus dealer to purchase them.  (I know generic metal wands will work, but I prefer genuine parts.)

Thanks,

Yes provided

The plastic wands you have are the typical non electric ones. The Lux Legacy and other models used a plastic wand with electrics in it. That will not work but from your description I do not believe you have that system since you mention the hose handle is male.

The genuine metal wands are either steel or aluminum. The aluminum ones are my favorite for use because they are lighter weight but don’t bend like the plastic ones. The steel ones are nice if you want the most durability. The telescopic wands are not genuine. Those would be something sold at an aftermarket place but are nice because of the flexibility they provide because you can select the length you want. The Aerus Lux Classic uses the “universal” 1 1/4” wand system so you can really use a multitude of attachments not necessarily Aerus but made to fit the universal 1 1/4” size. You can buy all sorts of fun dusters and other vacuum attachments in the 1 1/4” size off ebay and really customize your machine for all your cleaning needs. We bought a “package deal” this summer which included a flat flexible long wand to clean under the refrigerator and a ceiling fan attachment. Works nice.

Enjoy your Lux classic! I have yet to have found anything I like better than their design in my 53 years of vacuuming!

Thanks, and yes

Mine has the non-electric plastic wands that flex slightly and remind me of the cheap 1-1/4" wands that come with wet-dry vacuums and flex even more.  I get why they're plastic, but c'mon let's at least reinforce them a little so they present the illusion of quality.

I steered away from the Lux Legacy because of the power nozzle swivel joint that is reputed to be troublesome and under-designed, thus avoiding the electrified plastic wands.

Plastic wands

I have had the plastic wands by shop vac with the ribs on them and the plastic wands Electrolux provided with the earlier discovery style uprights. I do find the Electrolux ones are thicker and sturdier but nothing beats the metal ones they made. Ultimately if one wants light weight the aluminum ones are the best of both worlds. Non bendy but still light weight.
