In the U.S., Electroluxes had chrome-plated steel wands until the Model AE in 1956 when aluminum wands were first introduced. The AE actually was a crossover model -- I've seen AEs with both steel and aluminum wands. The one my parents had had steel wands.
The AE aluminum wands had a matte 'brushed' finish, then when the AF came out, the aluminum surface was smoother and had a slight sheen. That same wand was made until the plastic Electroluxes came out with plastic wands. Erugh. Barf. Icky-poo.
If your Electrolux has one aluminum and one steel wand, then they've just gotten mis-matched somewhere along the way.
